Great shots, AutoXer. Wondering why on the last photo there are 2 planes with the same number, "7" on them?

    Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

Some of you may remember back in the early 80's when Feinstein was mayor, the Blue Angels came into town a day early. Besides the Blue Angels crew and staff, the only other person who knew of the earlier arrival was the Base Commander at Alameda NAS. Well, the Blue Angels scared the **** out of everyone. I was going to college at the time (my campus was Swig Hall - currently the Ritz Hotel on California and Stockton) and I remember seeing the planes flying between the BofA building and the Transamerica Pyramid. Loud as heck. Amazing sights, but most thought we were being invaded (we were still heavily into the Cold War at that time). The Mayor's Office received thousands of calls complaining of the "scare".

    Oh, the 'Good Old Days'.

Normally, after the Fleet Week Celebration the Blue Angels head South to Miramar Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS, formally the Navy's Top Gun school) in San Diego to perform at the Miramar Air Show (http://www.miramarairshow.com), but not this year. The Air Force Thunderbirds will be performing this year. I'm sure they'll put out a great show, but the Blue Angels are top in my book.

Killer pics! I am an airshow freak. I will be there on Sunday. The best vantage point is from a boat. The fishing party boats all offer tours during the show at about $50 per person. It's spectacular to watch them quickly approach low and quiet then roar as they pass about 200 feet directly above your head.

Actually the best vantage point is from above. They block out up to 15k, so the plan is to fly at 15.5 which is above the box, and watch them work from there. BTW: Wife's uncle, Roy (Butch) Voris founded them (Named them after the local bar: Blue Angel), led them twice, the only person to have done that. Died 10/06 in Monterey. Neat guy.

Only got to go to fleet week a couple of times in the 80's... when my fraternity marched in the Columbus Day Parade... that is a completely different, very long and very funny story :D

but I recall standing on the Golden Gate Bridge as a carrier went underneath. WOW. Like a city moving by below you.

been wanting to go back ever since, but have always been busy.... same story this weekend too. damn.

I grew up on Air Force bases (got the grand tour of most of the SAC bases) and have seen Air Shows a plenty...

Seeing the Blue Angles over San Fran Bay has got to be one of the best venues around. Enjoy the show ya'll.

Great show yesterday and it was only the rehearsal. The Airbus A380 did a couple of fly-bys. The best part of the show for us was when one of the planes flew between us (floating about 100 yards east of Alcatraz) and Alcatraz in a left hand turn showing us US NAVY on the underside of both wings with full afterburners as he pulled away.

Was the A380 that huge plane that was flying really low out near the Marina Green/Pier 39 area?

Also, yesterday before the Blue Angels practiced there was a gray jet plane flying with a propeller plane, anyone know what those were?

I wanted to see if I could get into the building where I work right on the Embarcadero, but I woke up kinda late.
