Yes. Although I have only been a passenger in the 599, I can say it is without a doubt a supercar. I scoured the web for current definitions and media input, and here is my shamelessly cribbed summary:

Wikipedia: Supercar is a term used for a high-end sports car, typically an exotic or rare one, whose performance is highly superior to that of its contemporaries. The proper application of the term is subjective and disputed, especially among enthusiasts.

    The 599's Enzo-sourced Tipo F133F 6.0 L (5999 cc) V12 engine produces a maximum 620 CV (620 hp/456 kW), making it the most-powerful series production Ferrari road car ever.

A commonly held threshhold for 0-60 times and supercars is 4.0 seconds to 60 mph...

Motor Trend timed a 0–60 mph time of 3.2 seconds with a Ferrari test driver.

Road & Track also timed the 0–60 mph time at 3.2 seconds in a road test which appeared in the May 2007 issue.

Another common figure is lateral acceleration in excess of 1.0g

    Motor Trend reported 1.08g.

Still another benchmark is top speed in excess of 200 mph.

    Motor Trend reported 205 mph.

And a final benchmark is a quarter mile time of less than 12 seconds.

Motor Trend reported 11.3 at 126.4 mph.

Looks are subjective, but I believe it looks the part, albeit in a more subtle manner than an Enzo, Murcie, S7 or Zonda.

Top Gear Magazine also named the 599 GTB the 'Supercar of the Year 2006'.

Top Gear: "Blisteringly fast but beautifully behaved on the road, the Ferrari 599 GTB is a near-perfect supercar."

So that's my input. Others may rule it out as a front-engined GT car, but the media heavies have weighed in, and the numbers don't lie: this is one hot machine. Per your profile, congrats on your ownership of a Supercar. Pictures please?

Mass production cars are not supercars IMO irrespective of the stats. Enzo is a supercar. Whether or not subsequent mass production cars have better technology is irrelevant. 430S will shift faster than 599 or Enzo simply because it comes later. 599 is a fantastic mass production readily available (if you are prepared to wait) long run production car

It may have the specs to match up with super cars but it is really a production car. It is a very well thought car and it is made to run hard. The more I drive mine the better I like it. I also think it gets better looking. In some regard all F cars are super cars.

Supercar is relative term. Supercars do not require compromises despite popular opinion. We accept them, but 599 can do 98% or more than most supercars with minimal effort. So useability makes it a practical supercar. Most owners seem to be using them far more than the other F-cars, and they have been pretty trouble free from what I gather through FNA service.

    Enzo = Supercar
    599 = GT, not supercar

The 599 is faster then a lot of supercars...but that just means that automakers need to up the ante on supercars. I love the 599!!!

I don't care what anyone else thinks. It's really irrelevant to me. I love the 599. I drive it every day, in every conceivable situation. It is the best car Ferrari have ever made, bar none. To have to put a label on it is asinine. To the average joe out there who will never drive anything worth more than $50,000 in his lifetime, any Ferrari or Lamborghini or Porsche or Aston Martin is a supercar. To the lucky few who own Supercars in the accepted sense of rare, exotic, very limited production vehicles, only three or four cars might qualify for that designation. Who cares? I don't. It's a stupid topic to begin with and we're all morons for rising to the bait.

I think it depends on what you consider a "supercar". Most people consider a supercar an ultra limited production, very high performance rare car that costs a disgusting amount of money. So most Fchatters would not consider it a supercar, however, the general public whose lives don't revolve around cars probably would consider it a supercar.

It is a "super car" but no, it is not a supercar....

The only Ferrari supercars are the GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo Ferrari.

The definition of supercars has been questioned multiple times. To me a supercar is a machine designed from scratch for the purpose of driving enjoyment and high performance. I don't look at the supercar and the exotic definiton the same (to me personally, I don't categorize a car under "exotic" at all, it's pretty much pointless)

Therefore I want to seperate them as supercars and hypercars.

The supercars: Standard non-limited production Ferrari's (2+2, V8 mid-engine and V12 GT), TVR's, Porsche 911 Turbo/ GT2, Audi R8, Lamborghini's, Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM, RUF RT12, Ford GT, Alfa Romeo 8C, 430 Scuderia/ 360 Challenge Stradale, BMW M1 and so on. I would even stretch the term supercar to Honda NSX and Aston Martin V8 Vantage!! All these are built for thrill of driving...

The hypercars (the elite of performance cars, if you like): Ferrari 288 GTO, Ferrari F40, Ferrari F50, Ferrari Enzo, Mercedes-Benz SLR, Porsche Carrera GT, Pagani Zonda F, McLaren F1, Jaguar XJ220, Bugatti Veyron, RUF CTR3 (btw what's up with this one? After release photos no news?) etc. All these are built for fighting with the best of the best. These are the cars on childrens bedroom walls.

I hope I didn't confuse you - this is just the way I see it. But at the end of the day if you are happy then why should it matter...?

All these posts only prove the "eye of the beholder". What is the difference between a "super" car and "supercar"? Speed, cost, production numbers? Bugatti costs more and a 599 goes faster than virtually any other car on the planet. A Enzo , as well as a Carrera GT are (beyond doubt) super cars. However, they are not as expensive or as fast as some others. Does a car lose its supercar status when others replace it? The GT 2 is reportedly faster than a Carrera GT, and costs lest. Is it the cost vs speed? If I can buy a less expensive, limited production car, that goes faster, do I own a Super Car? If I spend more money or buy a faster car or one that is not massed produced, etc. etc. This entire discussion is all but meaningless. Best

The 3rd post offered the following quote and should have been read more carefully. Credit should be given to Tad for the winning bid.

    Wikipedia offers the following:

Supercar is a term used for a high-end sports car, typically an exotic or rare one, whose performance is highly superior to that of its contemporaries.

The proper application of the term is SUBJECTIVE and DISPUTED, ...etc. Best

i think definitely a super car - haven't you watched the National Geographic Documentary on the Ferrari factory (The ultimate factories)

they said so much in praise of 599, its s uper car,

AMS HighSpeedTest reported 599 doing 0-100, 0-200 0-300 earlier than Lambo Murcielago & SLR they rated

    1-Veyron
    2-599
    3-Lambo Murcielago (I have a 99MB Video as a proof)

so who says 599 not a super car?????????????????
