F1 drops into neutral between shifts

Your best bet is a dealer / specialist with SD2 or above. They need to check whether there is an gear box related error code stored.

 

This is a common problem on the 612. It can be quite dangerous. I would take it to the dealer for sure. I have heard various theories - clutch overheated so car protecting itself, electronics, hydraulics. I have a friend who nearly fell out of love with ferrari sorting this out. Hope your fix is easy. keep us posted

Just had the same problem with my F1 575 this week, it was the clutch! I first noticed the problem in the spring. Driving like my grandma the car was perfect but when accelerating quickly from a standing start or low rolling speed the car would go to Nuetral and then when shifting again it would select 6 for safety. The DS2 showed a out of sync "PIS" dimension which indicated a clutch problem. Low and behold when they opened it up the clutch was indeed shot.

My car has covered 17,000 miles

Was just wondering what the average clutch life is on a 575M F1? What has yours covered?

Problem does indeed sound like a worn clutch plate, our Maserati Spyder CC had the same symptoms. Odd with the wear though on yours Caspian, my 575 F1 has 19,000 miles and was serviced this Week, the wear is 39% up from 33% last Year where the mileage was 12,700

Most likley the clutch is worn. When the throw out bearing travels to far, there is a little drop in hydrolic pressure, the TCU see's this and does the safe thing and drops into neutral. We normally start to see this at around 70-75% clutch wear. 612/575 like to eat clutches.

 

Got my clutch done shedding J3000 or $6000 at todays rate in the process. Much smoother now especially coming down the box. No "N" selection at any point so I am happy that was the reason. The garage showed me the SD2 reading of the clutch which gave a PIS number - assume this is Pressure Idraulic Systema or something similar - as noted above the extra movement alters the pressure and the electonics pick it up. Interesting how the car in Auto mode shifts gears much more cleanly than I can even with dedicated concentration I cannot beat the electronics.

Question for you Ferrari-tech, any comparison with wear on a car that is driven in Auto mode compared to manual mode. I have always driven mine in manual but maybe I am better off saving manual for those special days.
