I had a CEL 1/4 come on yesterday so I pulled the codes in the evening. Heres what I got. 4114 - TDC Control unit recognition 1211 - Lambda regulation 1212 - Additive value for self-adaptation Lambda regulation The car has 10,000 miles and I just got it on October 1st. I opened up the air boxes and it has K&N filters. On one of the filters, the black rubber trim was hanging loose and the back half of the filter was caving into the box. The other side fit fine. I should also note, I pulled the codes with the engine running. However, the first time I tried I just turned the car over and didn't wait a few seconds for the lights on the dash to go out. Looking for some advice before I have to take the car somewhere to be fixed already
Could the air filter being caved in possibly cause those two codes to be thrown? Its hard to imagine that an O2 sensor with only 10k miles would be bad already.
Naw, the air filter wouldn't cause the O2 problems, but it could cause problems with the MAFS. As per our discussion, I would swap the O2 sensors from side to side, clear the codes and then see what pops up. Oh yeah, while your under the hood get some new air filters in there.
Thanks for the enlightening chat before! Im down in the garage now on the laptop. You did mean to swap the O2 sensors behind the oil filter and not the ones on the cats correct? Also, where is the battery and best way to get at it so I can pull the negative terminal?
No. I meant for you to check the connection for the O2 sensors, located by the oil filter. Then when you swap them, you swap them from one cat to the other. The battery is actually in the front fender well. But there is a connection in the engine bay, on the right hand side looking in. You should see it near the shock tower.
A bad phase sensor (code 4114) will cause the 1211 and 1212 codes. I'm not saying that's 100% your problem, but that code will trigger the other. However, that particular code is usually ignored because it is seen everytime you check the codes with the engine off. But since you checked the codes while the motor was running, it's real and it can be an explanation for the other error codes. I don't know about the 355, but that's an inexpensive part and an easy 4 bolt swap to fix the problem on a 348.
I got the o2 sensors swapped from left to right this evening. I also cleaned the connections for them and the coolant sensors. However, I managed to mess up one of them and need a new one before I can start the car again. Does anybody know if the two coolant sensors located behind/underneath the oil filter are cross referenced with a universal part that I can buy at my local auto parts store? I would hate to have to order one online and not be able to drive the car until late next week. I believe this is the one I need http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=201043.
In another thread I seen someone did indeed say the temp sensor was made by Bosch which means a local parts store may have one. But there wasn't a part number in the thread
If you get the sensor from Dan (Ricambi) he will have it out to you pretty quick. Dan is the man when it comes to this stuff, great service, Dave isn't bad either. Either that or you can try and source the sensor yourself. It will just take some detective work on your part. By the way, how did you goof up the coolant sensor?
