What do you think of the 599 looks?

  1. I think it's a masterpiece from Ferrari!

  2. It's okey I guess.

  3. Meh... I'm not feeling it. Not what I had hoped for.

  4. Not my kind of Ferrari.

I usually don't start threads but I have noticed the opinions on the looks of the 599 is very divided. Some cherish it while others dislike it. So I thought I'd start a poll just for the fun of it.

I am only basing my reply to what I have seen in the magazines and the like.
My initial reaction is: it is not very exciting looking.

    1) I don't like the single taillight on each side. I prefer the two.
    2) I don't like the "star" wheels that some of them get. I prefer the Challenge wheels.
    3) The front fascia/gaze doesn't get my juices going.
    4) I am not a fan of cars with long "snouts" ala the Mercedes SLR, Ferrari 550-575 and 612

Having said those things, I am almost sure, if and when I see one in the metal, my feelings will change.

    Cheers,
    JJ

+1 the design is quite polarizing. You'll see numerous discussions on the single rear taillight per side

It looks like a cartoon in pictures, I haven't seen one in person yet.
Am I the only one who can imagine seeing a hyundai badge on it?

As is the case with any front engine car, especially 12 and 10 cylinders, you have to be ok with the long front hood. If you are, then it becomes a matter of picking the car apart. The rear is similar to the 612 with nothing fancy and giving way to aero dynamic needs. The interior is , arguably, not much different than a 430. The driving of the car is what sets it apart from others. Seeing the car in person gives you a "feel" for the package (very nicely done), but you are still left looking at a long hooded GT, that "market price" is somewhere close to $500,000 in the U.S. I chose to spend the same money buying a new 430 and Bentley GT. Best

If there's ever a car not to judge based on pics alone, it's the 599. I too wasn't so impressed with it when I first saw pics, but seeing it in person, especially on the road & next to other cars, will change many minds.

We took my 599, 430Sp, and my brother's Gallardo Spider out for a good drive today and got 20+ minutes of video footage. I'll try to get the video on Fchat sometime this week. Hopefully the video will give some people an idea of how good the 599 looks. A couple of the guys with us today had a less than stellar opinion of it prior to today, but every single one of them thinks differently now, especially my brother who is a big Lambo fan and was previously not impressed with the 599. His exact words were "this think looks a lot better than I first thought it did".

hmmm I wish there was an option between the its ok and the its a masterpiece thats what i would have gone with, but anyways, it is really very attractive and capturing when you get up in real life, much more so then in pictures

For some reason the 599 doesnt appeal to me. I think its way to large...tall...long...and the design is just not ferrari (esque)
Yeah, the numbers are all there, and its a super car and has the sticker on it. But as for looks, i stared at it for an hour and it was one of those cars that you wanna love...and have too love...but dont really love (does this make sense).

+1. I voted "masterpiece" because it manages to be graceful and dramatic all at the same time and pushes the envelope in a great direction, but it is really quite large and I think that color choice can have a major affect on the impression it gives off in person.

As "classic" as a 550? Hopelessly not. It doesn't upset me, though--I'll just start looking at pictures of 550s instead. :)

I've seen 5 or 6 in person at FoSD and Ferrari events (FOC, Concorso, etc) in red, black and a metallic dark red color. Apart from the standard wheels, I think it looks good in pics and real life. All Ferraris look better in person.

The only drawbacks are that it isn't a startlingly original design (some deja vu bits here and there - I see some Viper in the way the nose is joined to the back section, a trace of Hyundai Tiburon in the vents, a hint of Corvette and new Mitsubishi Eclipse, as well as obvious family cues from the 612) and it had the bad luck to follow the dramatically handsome 550/575M, which was arguably Pininfarina's best post-1990 design (and which was copied for the Corvette C6...)

That said, I wouldn't mistake it for one of those other cars, and I wouldn't call it "cartoonish". If anything, it's an attractive car that falls short of great because it lacks one signature element (250 GT Cal Spyder fender kick, 550/575 haunches and tail, Lusso fenderline and brightwork, 246/308/328 intakes, Daytona chunky stance and nose ...) that grabs you by the lapels and says "Ferrari!!!" Instead, it has a lot of elements that seem to have been added in the hope that it would somehow add up to something cohesive.

Still an impressive car, considering it delivers performance on par with an Enzo and carries your luggage...

Seeing the 599 for the first time at the Petit LeMans in a corral with other Ferrari's it looks out of place.....more like a Japanese car than Italian IMO.

The only poll that counts is the one where you write a check.

Currently, folks are writing checks for $100k over sticker. So I guess that just about sums it up, huh?

I think it's beautiful, I just think it's a little too tall. I love 'em when they're shockingly shorter than anything else on the road. You shouldn't blend in at all...

It'd be perfect if you just squashed it a little. :)

It's ofcourse a great car.....but it isn't my type of car. What I feel for the F430 is completely different than what I feel for the 599. I adore the F430 or the 360, but I'm neutral towards the 599.

Let's re-open the discussion in five years and see where it is relative to sticker. Pretty much any car Ferrari has made since at least 288 GTO days trades for well over sticker initially. Some stay there, some don't. Time will tell.

I agree, but having gone new car shopping this year I think European pedestrian safety regs have put an end to the Boxer/Countach/308/Esprit-type, sliver-shaped cars. Blunt noses and more vertical windscreens (probably to keep the driver's head from hitting glass in a crash) mean more cars like the Audi R8 and new Jag XK - they simply have to be a bit taller to carry off that bluntness up front.

I think Pininfarina will have their work cut out for them to keep the drama in exotics.

+1 the crash regs are going to dictate the proportions of cars from now on, it will be details that make the cars stand out.

    I love the 599.

One thing that is awesome about this car that people never mentionned is the reflection that car projected. I dont know if you guy know what i mean but all the curves of the car creates awesome reflections that makes the cars so sexy. Especially on direct sunlight, it look stunning.

    heres some example:

i thought the 599 was rubbish, based on pictures...till i met one last year. Argento Nurburgring i think, with CS wheels...swept me off my feet.
