Here are the first of a bunch of pics I took at this weekend's race. Aside from some rain early and late on Friday it was a great time. The first pics are from Friday, when the rain kept the Ferrari count down to 9 in the corral.

In late morning we were taken down to Risi Competizione's paddock area to see their F430 GTs up close. I was surprised to find out that all the GT cars are required to have functional air conditioning, and in fact they were charging up the system in the #62 car while we were there. And note the closeup of the ALMS' innovative three-light position indicators in the side of the #61 car.

When we were done the autograph session was going on and I took a few snaps. It was fun to meet guys like Adrian Fernandez, Tony Kanaan and Graham Rahal. Then I headed to the tent where an excellent retrospective of the previous 9 Petit races was on display, including the BMW prototype and the 333 SP.

By the time I got back to the corral, a few more Ferraris had shown up, including a 599, which got a detailing job while we watched. And when an Audi R8 went up the driveway past our corral, I followed it down to the Audi corral that was behind ours, where I also found an S5 and the new TT.

    More to come.....

ACO requirement for GT cars for this year's 24 Hours of LeMans was mandatory AC - that's why #62 & #61 have it.

Nice photos - of all the R8's we've seen the blue with carbon fiber panels is by far the best. The red S5 in the hospitality area was awesome too - it was at Road America.

Nice photos guys. I'm not sure of the "Ferrari" content of the last one Jeremy, but it's one of my faves! Sorry I missed
you guys, but I was only there on Friday. Had to return to Columbia, but enjoyed the little time I was there.

Alright guys, I missed the race but I had a great time in NYC.

That is great that the Ferrari gathering went well but did any of you see the Porsche tent. The should have been right behind the paddock along the paddock exit road. They have had a lot of success throughout the year and they were really excited about this race specifically.

Actually the Porsche Corral was right next to the Cadillac Corral overlooking turn 10a / 10b. The Corvette Corral overlooked the paddock exit road.

Hmmm, there is usually a Porsche corral sponsored by Jim Ellis at 10a/10b but this year Porsche Cars North America purchased their own air conditioned hospitality trailer with full service, including food and beverage and talks with the drivers. You should have seen a huge trailer with glass panel walls.

Nice shots, Jeremy, especially the last one! You've confirmed one thing to me: I need more focal length, as you'll see when I add my on-track shots.

More shots from Friday afternoon: I took a stroll thru Vendor Village and shot a few interesting subjects. Then I headed down to the hill between turns 1 and 2 to document the SPEED GT race, always a good event. Unfortunately, as I was taking the two photos below, it was beginning to rain, and when the heavens opened up, I scurried back to the corral as a good portion of the field was skating off the track! The last pic of the day shows the aftermath: a pair of wet cavallini.

Saturday morning was again cloudy, but no rain would fall. I arrived to find a group of Ferraris which, for the most part, had not been there the day before, and this time parked nose-out. As a "non-invitee", I initially parked in the public lot across the driveway, but was soon ushered into the corral, as would the other Ferraris that would come that way throughout the day. I found a proper parking place between Walt's 308 and Mark's 348, thus maintaining the chronology. (We had space for an F355, but none arrived for awhile; instead a nice blue 456 took the space.) I was issued a different-color wristband that permitted access and parking, but no food, which was fine with me, as I hadn't counted on getting any.

Later I wandered off and found a Lotus corral that had been non-existent (one Elise and no signs!) the day before. When informed that I wouldn't be eating with the Ferrari folk, I was invited to come back for lunch later, which I accepted. Thank you, SELOC! I also found a couple of Gallardos, but aside from a single Alfa spider, saw no other Italian cars in the infield all weekend.

When I got back, I found that more Ferraris had arrived. I never counted all the cars, but I believe that at most there were about 25 in the corral. And as for the thought that most Ferraris are red, at one point I could see 19 cars from where I was standing, and only 8 of them were red!

    Next photos: on-track action!

My shots of the early part of the race were taken from my usual favorite spot to watch race starts: standing right in front of the Jumbotron overlooking the turn 10 complex. The first two shots were taken on the last pace lap just before the field took the start.

I had already located the spot where Justin (euro_exoticar) and his family were watching from; in fact you can see it in the last photo in post #14 above; one of the blue canopies on the right side of the photo. A great spot!

You can see from the side lights that the Maserati was up to 2nd in class, and in the next photo you can see why! :D

I then located the motorhome of the Georgia Tech Autoshow group, with their leader Sterling Skinner, somewhat higher up and a little further away from turn 10. They were setting up a big-screen TV so that they could watch the GT-Maryland football game while also keeping an eye on the race. They had a rather different vantage point of the approach to the Suzuki bridge, and I also found a Morgan parked next door.

I then headed back to the Ferrari corral to prepare to drive over to the skidpad area, and found it fuller than when I had left. Note how few of the F-cars are red!
