I have a new F430, my current lady friend want to drive it. I said NFW. She is easier to replace than the car. Do i have a bad attitude?

The question here is whether the wife lets me drive her Murcielago or her Bentley GTC.

I get allot of happiness when my wife takes one of the cars for a ride. The fact that she enjoys driving them as much as I do is great. She isn't crazy about the Elise or the RX-7 but loves to drive the Viper (900 rwhp) or the Ferrari.
FWIW when we were dating I let her drive the Viper and my old Esprit.

Well, I didn't quite put it like that. I just laughed said no way and changed the subject. But she is easier to replace than the car. I suspect i have not found true love. You weren't talking about the car were you? I did let her drive my SL but they are a dime a dozen.

My wife is scared to drive it, but she's taken command on a couple of ocassions. I need to push her a little so she'll be brave enough to venture out alone, once in a while, rarely, if ever, never mind!

My brother wanted to show my CS to my nephew and I foolishly handed the keys to him. I told him to be careful but he returns the car with a scraped rear diffuser. Very superficial but I've never scraped it myself.

I have no problem with my wife driving the/my/our car......as long as I am in the passenger seat watching over! There are only a few other people I entrust driving my car as long as I am there at the same time :)

Get over yourself and your Ferrari. It's an inanimate material object and the truth is it can be very easily replaced. Someone who cares for you may be tougher to find.

When my friend's daughter got her license I took the F1 F430 coupe over as she loves Ferraris (OK, I took the F1 because I did not want to have her learn on the gated 6 speed manual in the F430 Spider).

She loved driving it and I loved letter her drive it - we need to share the experience - I let as many folks drive my cars as possible and get almost as much a thrill as they do (Tho I back it down on the mannetino depending on my assessment of their skill). It is awesome to see their expressions and reactions and to hear them describe the experience over and over and over.

With no judgement of her/you, if she is asking to drive it "once", why not a freeway that is clear early in the morning. If more than that, you need to tell her about your money and insecurity (which you are entitled to and by no way do I mean to insult you). My wife of many years has driven our Ferrari once and knows it is "my" car. If she really wanted to drive it she could, but respects my "insecurities" enough to respect me. We have other cars and she is fine driving them without making driving the Ferrari an issue. Best

My wife has driven the 599 and will continue to drive it anytime she wants.

11 year old son -- who races go karts -- has driven my 599 and Ford GT. We had him starting on a Honda Civic 5 Speed last year going up and down the drive until he became quite proficient. He knows how to heal and toe and double clutch. This summer he drove the 599 and GT on several occasions. He drove them with moderation but, quite frankly, he is probably a better driver than 1/2 the people who own these cars.

For the last two years my wife refused to drive the 360, but after both my pre-license, teenage kids successfully drove the car in a parking lot, she's willing to give it a go. Of course, now I have a 430 so she's nervous again.

    Soon... very soon.

She is testing you and if you trust her with one of the your most valuable possessions. Some women for example like to ask for your email password and say that they'll never check it (trust again). I seriously think some watch Oprah to much.

What I would do in your situation is have some fun with this by purchasing an extra key ($450) and get it cut to one of your different cars or something unique like your house. "Accidentally" leave your keys in a location were she'll see them and she'll be tempted to start or try to drive the car. You'll need to go on a "business trip" and leave her behind for the test.

I always enjoy watching how these "psychological" questions get answered over time. They reflect our personalities. Some "trust" everyone (money no object), others are more gaurded (often with good reason). We all leave ourselves open to criticim as soon as we share our view(s), but in your case, you have to decide what you are comfortable with. It does not matter if someone else would let their 11 year old drive a $500,000 car or another gets his car back with a scratch after trying to be a nice guy. What really matters is how you live your life and who this girlfriend is and what she means to you. As for me, I made my suggestion above. Best

I of course started this thread tongue in cheek. When I was married my wife drove what ever she wanted to. RBK always has some interesting insights. The car is of course a mechanical object and it is just money. The fact remains that her driving skills suck. :) In the general scheme of things cars are not that valuable only people are.
