Fellas, Sorry, again, for bringing up such a contentious issue. But why the big deal? I read all the posts and most made sense. Some people got a little carried away, but, am I missing something? AJ
No real drama AJ. The issue is that this has been discussed over 1 MILLION times already and I guess everyone is sick of it. New guys obviously have not read the 300 threads in the archives on this 348 vs NSX topic.........so here we are today.
Wow! Somehow I missed this 16 page party? Anyway, I don't understand why the original poster is contemplating/comparing a 348 and an NSX. They are two entirely different cars. "Sport" versus "sporty". Only have $30k? "Sporty" is what you need. Owning a real race car isn't cheap. Thanks & good day.
I bought the NSX. It is an amazing car, gona keep her until I can upgrade to 355. After driving 4 348's and brothers 355 i decided the 355 is much better in all regard well worth the wait. Thanks for the support
Congrats. I've seen many on eBay for $2x,000. No need for a loan at all! I will overlook this lapse in judgement, as you also state the NSX is "amazing". Clearly you are high. The 348 always beats the 355
I had a similar decision just recently when I had owned my Porsche 996 Techart Turbo. I got bored with it and wanted a different car. My choices were a f355 and 02+NSX. Both cars are good but not comparable. I've decided to go with the F355 knowing that the expenses will be 100x more than the NSX for normal maintenance and unexpected repairs... I've never been happy with the F car... Also, at the end of the day, a ferrari will always be a ferrari....
Yeh same thing happened to me got bored with the m3 and 911. Looking forward to the 355 looks better than the Modena IMO.
Oh.. I was referring to the following: 1.] Sound (based on what I've researched, no NSX comes close to the sound of the F355) 2.] Respect that you get from people on the road - other drivers doesn't want to be close to you since you are an F car 3.] The attention 4.] Owning a ferrari is everybody's dream (maybe not for all but majority) 5.] Speed - Bones stock, I feel that the NSX was underpowered unless you plan on putting CTSC (Comptech supercharger) which I heard was unreliable. NOTE: Not bashing the NSX but these are some of my decision points that made me pick the F355 over the NSX...
In general, I think most guys find cars that 'speak to them' -- always give them a grin -- and others that just fall flat. My brother's a huge Porsche 911 fan, to the point where other sports cars don't interest him. I'm keen on the Ferraris from the Daytona era up through the 328. Doesn't matter that they're now outdated, or that parts are expensive. They just flip my switch because of all the stuff people have said here: brutal, imperfect, style over sense, frustrating, euphoric, etc. The NSX just never did -- too much 'normal' in the equation. I admired it back when you saw them in showrooms, but it never made it onto my lust list because somehow it was just too accessible and the Acura name was a little too manufactured itself (Honda has a tradition, but 'Acura' was a focus-group idea.) To be fair, I draw a heavy black line between my daily driver cars and my weekend sports cars, and apply very different criteria. I want something outrageous, loud and irrational for my weekend toy. Some of the things the Acura does well aren't as high on my list as the things the Ferraris do well. That's something the OP would have had to make up his own mind about. When you move over to the Ferrari/pre-Audi Lambo/Lotus part of the automotive spectrum, you give up some of the stuff you get in an Audi R8, Acura NSX, Chevy Corvette, etc. Does that matter to you? You can argue it either way. For me, cars like the 328, Esprit, Diablo, Boxer, etc. have that intangible exotic quality to them. That's enough to pry my wallet open a bit further. As discussed here, it's a very personal decision. Also, FWIW, my 328 hasn't missed a beat in the last two years, so while the NSX is surely reliable there are ample stories of happy Ferrari owners who have gone back for multiple Ferraris. I've been pleasantly surprised with mine. So, let's not oversimplify -- if you're fastidious about maintenance, a Ferrari can be a very good car.
Who brought this crap up again for the millionth time, stop it and do your homework. Try the search feature to get your answers, we don't want to hear it again or go to an NSX chat room.
So glad to see great threads like this updated. I think every Ferrari owner should strive to move up to NSX ownership at least once in their lives. Hopefully, your time has come
The amazing thing about this "discussion" is that the NSX is the best Honda has to offer and the 348 is the entry level Ferrari... I mean the best of Honda its not has good has one of the most simple Ferraris ever made... So why comparing both brands?!?! Btw a good 348 is very reliable! i know people that made trips from Germany to Portugal only stoping for gas and no problems at all! Be good to your Ferrari and it will be good to you. Regards
