Reventon thread

Did you know that Picasso created over 20,000 pieces of artwork during his career. That includes paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, theater sets and costumes.

There is a lot of tooling and design dollars that Lamborghini will have to amortize over those 20 units. $1.5m seems steep for one. But once we see all the differences between it and the 640 and actually start putting dollar values to the costs of creating them I think you will find that it probably will cost more than they are actually selling them for. The real value for the company is likely in the advertising they will get for the entire line.

 

Still a long-dead artist whose "cache" developed over time. I doubt if many of his works from his early years sold for much when "new", relative to today.

Development costs will be recovered from the sale of the first one. It's just not that different.

 

That's highly doubtful. I've spent my entire career(over 30 years) in the metal stamping business. There is a lot of hard tooling required to build all those new body panels. Factor in all the interior changes the design and engineering hours,testing,assy fixturing. You are talking about significant dollars.

 

One of the great myths of collecting is that at the time things seemed like a bargain. Just after P died I met his daughter M and made a deal that enabled me to buy an original painting I quite liked with the right to export it to the US from his estate. At that time I paid a sum that today seems like nothing vs what it may be worth today but at the time it was real money to me.

 

In a lot of respects the art world reminds me of the diamond market. You really need to like your purchase and not think about the cost. When you consider the vast amount of now-valuable original art out there,it makes me wonder how one piece could command over 100million.
If we started a list of just all the *famous* artists and then outlined their individual pieces it would be staggering.

If you have a good eye you can get lucky. My Wife bought an original Jos. Albers at a yard sale for 10c. True.

 

Although I'm not a fan of the Reventon conceptually, since its debut I began to appreciate it more and more for its seemingly unparalleled ability into turning people into self righteous disrespectful arrogant, who know better than the people that bought the car.

 

I hope you bought a lotto ticket that same day! Makes you wonder where that supposedly missing 400 pieces of Picasso's work is hiding out.

 

how is it a special car ?
(or rather how is it a special car worth 4 times the price of an LP640)

what your suggesting (apart from the implied insult) is that if you like the car then feel free to tell everyone about it, but if you dont then your opinion isnt welcome.

I don't like the car, nor do I have a problem with people that don't like it. I do however have a problem with everyone that craves incessant attention to their opinion as if theirs is the only valid. Also you might have missed it :

I'm a great believer in buying what pleases you not what others think is cool. All of us above ground are very lucky. For car guys driving any car you Love, whatever it is what ever it costs, sitting next to someone you Love, down a great road is all that matters.

I was very happy driving with Meg into the Sun Setting over Brooklyn in my VW Bug and I'm very happy driving with her into the Sun Setting over Sicily our P 4/5.

Your absolutely right Minte, I wasn't directing my comment to Napolis, it was directed to the people who make a point on slamming this car on any thread with the word Reventon.

 

oneo f the main points of this board is discussion, its a place where we all come and give our opinions.

You've clearly made your point already. You don't like the car because it is based on the 640.

Discussion should mean discussion,not ranting and ultimatums. I read slurs against my Gallardo all the time here.
It's an AUDI, it's NOT a Lambo,etc.... At the end of the day,whatever others want to think it makes no difference to me.
I like the car. And I am just as certain that the people who will own Reventons will like their cars.

 

obviously i havent made my point clearly enough.

i dont like the car because theyre calling it a new model, radical, etc etc and upping the price by a factor of 4.
when in fact its nothing of the sort.

if they were selling it as a new Murci derivative at a similar price i still dont know id like it (the styling mods arent quite to my tastes) but i wouldnt be calling it a rip off

i started this thread
not because i dislike the reventon, but because i saw that someone is trying to get rid of theirs already and thought ppl might be interested - i also speculated why this may be happening.

you and others then chose to jump on the bandwagon and start a catfight - now you dont like it ?????

thats a whole different thing and not related.
