hype, sheepish mentality, and immature & gross self-indulgence. Tell me, there's a difference between buying a car that's expensive (like the Enzo) to drive and actually EXPERIENCE the pleasure of driving it whereas a static object like a painting is absolute garbage. $104 Million?? This kind of nonsensical indulgence and extravagance is criminal. Tell these idiots to learn some crafts, and if they cannot, at least help those in need. Now don't start quoting me about "well instead of buying a Ferrari you could have helped others..." the amount is miniscule compared to this bunk. The mentality & ideology behind BOTH the Reventon & this painting are the same--HYPE, gross egotism, and helps the owners' feeling of insecurity to some extent--in direct relation to the 'exclusivity' factor. However, one excuse for the paintings is for billionaires to put their wealth in different places like real estate, art, etc.. Now the painting itself is brilliant.. but come on.. $104 million.. ?? nothing but criminal. and the sad part is the man who painted all these beauties is gone.
Honestly, you've reminded me why I don't frequent the boards. I'm guessing you are somewhere in your 20's. I'm not. I have children in their 20's. Odds are nearly 100% that in real life,we'd never have any kind of contact or communications. I really could care less whether you approve of the car. Raise the capital and buy Lamborghini, everything has a price. After you've done that, build the car that you think Lamborghini should build.
sure - but its not just the addition of a bodykit is it. its a special track only car it allows end users to get involved in development it has more power plus, plus, plus etc etc why do ppl insist on using analogies that on inspection have no similarity my problem with the Reventon isnt the fact is based on the LP640 per se. its that its being proclaimed as a whole new car with radical styling etc and with a price tag 4 times that of the LP640 when in fact its not a new car, its not got radical styling (bar a bodykit) and wont likely cost more to produce (within a few $$$) of an LP640 its all smoke, mirrors and hype. going back to the enzo/fxx you mentioned before. for roughly 3 times the price of the then current top of the fcar tree the 575M you got a whole new machine it had a different engine, different chassis, different styling, performance was in a different league etc etc ive always been a massive lambo fan. ive choose a miura over a daytona any day of the week a countach over a boxer/tr gallardo over 360/430 murci over 599 but i wouldnt want a reventon - it seems to me to be too much hype and not enough car.
hey chaos, i agree w/ your position on the looks of the revention. i cannot believe this car could be produced w/ the finished product looking as it does...looks like a george barris creation or even a unique whips body kit. now...i hope you were just joking about picking the ct over the boxer?? (grin) btw, i love the ct too. pcb
With all respect... There is a guy LV Eric who posts here, he has an amazing collection. But there is no shortage of folks who criticize it, ask him why he doesn't have a 599, or a Countach or whatever else. Me personally, I like the SLR. I also like the LP640. I dont know why but I would be willign to ante up the $$ for the SLR before the Lambo. Many would say they disagree, but I just like the SLR. I also would not buy an Enzo. I find the car ugly and unappealing, regardless of horsepower. I like the McLaren F1, but I feel I would want it more to say I had owned one more than because I really love the car. I also love the Veyron. Those are the cars I like. I bet most folks don't agree - but it always irks me when someone says that a given car is for someone "with more money than sense". What is sensible about buying any car over $50k? They are all depreciating assets. If I earned enough $$ in my life to be able to afford a Veyron, how does someone get off telling me I have no sense because they would buy XYZ car instead? To me, its sort of like meeting someone and blurting out "wow, dude, your wife is pretty ugly, you could do better". Its just something you don't say. Just the way I see it. And FWIW, I don't like the Reventon. But I know the costs involved in doing one-off projects like that. I think Lambo isn't so much trying to rip off owners, as they are making a factory-built custom LP640 and spreading the R&D costs across the customers. If someone came to me and wanted me to design that dash from start to finish, I would be looking for a few hundred grand to do it - probably a lot more even. But even if I charged them $300k, and they are selling 100 cars, that's $3,000 per car per customer. If they want to mark my work up 30%, that's $4k per car. Multiply that by all the parts that were done, and that's where the cost comes from - plus profit, marketing and warranty, I am sure. I wouldn't buy one, but I don't think anyone living his dream and buying a car that gives him a woodie is an idiot with more $$ than sense. I admire the guy - must be nice to be able to blow that much $$ on a depreciating asset. If that's stupid, then I hope to be that dumb one day. Don't we all?
Again with all due respect... If these people are so stupid as to be fooled by a body kit and "fancy clocks" as you say, then surely taking their money is stupifyingly easy, right? So given that you obviously place yourself in a higher category of class and intelligence because you would not be fooled by such an obvious scam, why are you not the rich guy selling crap to stupid rich people? If they are so stupid and its easy to make them part with their $$ (and said fools are happy to part with said $$ and happy after the sale too), then why can't a man who is much more intelligent than said fools come up with a product they will buy and make himself rich? Maybe the buyers aren't stupid - maybe they just have different tastes to you, and also maybe having the funds to drop $1mm+ on a car without batting an eyelash changes one's perspective. You only live once. For a guy who'se worth $700mm and makes a few million per MONTH just on interest on his wad, what does $1mm matter? He can drive the car, show off to his buddies, probably flip it as the elusive 1 of 100 and lose how much? Maybe lose $100k MAX, or maybe gain a few hundred grand. So his exposure is $100k, let's say. Well, what are Murcies worth used? Easy to lose more than $100k on a Murcie or an LP640. So how is this guy a fool for buying the car? He's made his mark in life to where he's rich enough to be able to drop $1mm on a frikin' car and we can pass judgement that he's a stupid man? I find that attitude extremely arrogant and small-minded. Again, with all due respect because I like your posts Chaos, but I think you're missing the mark big-time on this one. And I doubt you would say the same to an owner if he took you for a ride in his Reventon.
^ I agree with SRT Mike When you get into F-YOU money, it's a different world. This car is a toy, not an investment. People pay many many times more than this for pieces of "art" that hang on the wall... that might not make sense to normal working folks, but their opinion doesn't matter. Anyone is free to spend their money on whatever you want, and if you have so much that blowing a few million on cars is insignificant to your net worth, then have at it. Why do people pay 10x more for a pair of athletic shoes just because they are branded with an "Air Jordan" label? It's the same concept, with just a few more zeros behind the prices.
not to speak for chaos however he said he is a long time lambo fan as am i. i wonder if like me, he is just a bit saddened that w/ all the hype of lambo introducing some new supercar...we end up w/ a kitted lp-640 with a body penned by a comic book artist. i so wanted the new supercar to be a world beater in every sense and futher would have expected the appearance to be sexy like a lambo classically has been. it clearly is not! we wanted an enzo killer but i think many of us feel a bit sold out by lambo and the german powers that be. true that it is up to the buyer as to what they want to spend their money on and how they find enjoyment...have at it and enjoy in good health. pcb
Reading this thread gives me headaches.. Why can't everyone bicker in private messages and leave opinions in the threads instead? My opinion: The Reventon is one sexy car, and if you have that kind of money why not. Reasons: Have been posted throughout this thread. People with enough money, different tastes, etc. Back to my headache..
Your right!!!!! If everyone had the same taste the World would be boring, and I understand that this is a place where we come to give our opinions.......but the way you post you would think that you are a spammer, same posts different wording, that gets boring!!!!! And in regards to your suggestion that I go somewhere else, well.....You started this thread; so maybe if you don't like my responces you shouldn't start them, because like you said I am just giving MY opinion.
Atleast you get 800hp with the FXX, I was expecting atleast 700 with this and you don't get much other than a "Veilside Murcielago" as far as iam concerned. With an asking price of over amillion bucks I was expecting much more and as a longtime lambo geek i can tell you that iam very diaspointed with how this car turned out. Its more of a replacment for the Coatl than anything else. If people like it then thats cool but this car so far has been a big disapointment for me. With the kind of money spent on this car I could build a better car with just a base LP640. Give me hannman LP640, that looks much better than the Revention and doesn't cost a lifetime.
When I heard about the Reventon (before the press release) I told my local dealer "GET ME ON THAT LIST" Having seen it now and all the specs..... I'm thankful Lambo ignored me from the get-go. What a massive disappointment. For that kinda $$$, I'm expecting something far more substantial than an LP640 w/ funky bodykit and guage clusters. Beyond the "exclusivity" (questionable value?), I want a Veyron, Enzo or CCX killer. That ain't even close. The Reventon is worth US$200,000 more than an LP640, should have a production run of 60 - 80 as well as DSG and magnetic suspension.
But then if your beef is with Lambo, would anyone bash the people buying the car? Misdirected anger? I like the new M3. Many don't. So is it appropriate if they called me an idiot with more money than sense for buying one? Think about it... its no different. I dont know why you feel 'sold out'. I dont mean this in a bad way, but was Lambo designing the car for you? If not, how did they 'sell you out'? I think their target market was probably guys worth in excess of $100mm. I don't think they are as much concerned with pleasing their 'fans' who don't and won't own their cars. In my business we get folks who are not customers and will never be customers (they just dont fit the demographic) giving us "advice" on how we should proceed in our business, what products we should do, etc. I also get plenty of judgement passing about products "Oh that sucks - you should have done XYZ instead". Well, we've been successful. I don't think those folks have a leg to stand on if they aren't existing or potential customers. Non sequitor - why attack the purchaser if your beef is with the producer?
+1 Sure, the price is way out of line with its performance and materials. Kind of like Louis Vuitton goods or Prada stuff. It carries a heftier markup for the exclusivity and "art" value. Would I buy it? No. With only 20 units already sold (and probably buyers for those cars to be flipped), is it worth getting in a huff about? No. It would be like complaining about Damien Hirst's new art: you don't like it and don't think it's worth $100mm. Well, tough luck because someone thought it was and already bought it.
you are correct mike. my comments were not aimed to incite any flames...just comments. again, i don't argue w/ your rational. pcb
Reventon is a cynical marketing exercise. You can't "buy into" "cool" or "collectible". You earn it. Cobra creators did not say.."Gee, lets build a car that will be considered uber cool in a few decades." They just did their thing and it clicked. Lambo did not set out to make a great car... They set out to make the rarest. Which is easy... So what next... they build 10 cars based on the Gallardo and looking like the Miura and call it "Ferrucio" and charge 10 mil for it????? Just an example... Their is a garage in Switzerland that built a few Diablo "Evolutions" body kits. Well, guess what, they dropped like stones in value. There is nothing "collectible" about the Reventon performance. You might as well take the extra 1 mil, go to a coach builder and get a UNIQUE bodykit that no one will have in the world (as well as the twin turbo conversion.)
If I had a Reventon I would sell it before the tires hit the ground and go buy something decent. I am sure we agree on that part Cheers!
