And UCLA's supposed to be better than the other teams ND lost to. Makes you question the Pac 10 even more...
Having two injured quarterbacks didn't help. No excuses though, that game should have gone much differently. Also, USC was supposed to be #1 and lost to Stanford, who plenty of teams have beat (UCLA included). Very interesting season.
I was at the game and sitting on the side where the last drive took place. I've never heard the Coliseum so quiet after a game; it was eerie.
Funny that USC only dropped 5 spots after losing to a 41 point underdog. Michigan fell almost out of the polls after a their loss to App. state. Still shows you that there is much sentiment favoring USC. They could conceivable make it back to the championship game with a loss at home to the biggest underdog in college football this year. BT
If they dropped themtoofar they wouldn'tbeable to annoint them before the championship game. just goes to show you polls are worthless we need a playoff system.
I CAN'T STAND THE AP VOTERS. It's absurd to still have USC in the top 10 based on the way they've played thus far. Kentucky dropped further than USC, losing an away game to a much higher ranked team than Stanford. Wisconsin was about correct: they dropped to a (now)ranked team and fell hard, largely because they have won their games by the seat of their pants. Does USC have loads of talent? Yes. UNPROVEN TALENT. However, I have no answer for what could be done to change the system. A playoff would be great, but then USC would STILL be in it based on the rankings. A playoff doesn't help what happens during the season, only the end. I've thought long and hard about this too. A fan vote? No, that would be laughable. Records only? No, then great coaches would go to smaller schools, recruit well, and beat up on everyone in his weaker conference to go undefeated. Total points/ margins are no good because then you force teams to run up the score when they might choose to run clock and show some class(although that already plays a big part). Any ideas? ?
A playoff system would be more fair but I prefer the current system because it is more exciting. Miami has benefitted (in the early 80's) from the bowl system, and been left out (2000) with the BCS. I don't like how the rules for the BCS are changed every year, but I really enjoy all the bowl season for its interesting matchups and great games.
After last week's debacle from the most overrated program in the land atm, Vegas decided to cut their USC prediction in half this week from 40 to 21 against Arizona. I'm guessing the boys in Vegas made a KILLING last week on that game. Elway wouldn't even bet on Stanford. Also, one of the marketers in the Reggie Bush $$ scandal is going to talk to the NCAA. This is a HUGE break in the case, because up until now no one has willingly come to the NCAA to speak on the matter. The man is a former gang member and convicted felon(i guess the Vick thing happened too late for people to learn), but he has documents to support his claims, and I think this could be a huge scar on the USC program if it develops. The problem is, the NCAA doesn't want to call one of their biggest names a cheater. We may never see a penalty against them for any of what happened, but we might also see them stripped of everything that happened while Bush was on campus, including (I'm guessing) some 25+ wins, national championship, and a Heisman. We'll wait and see...
Yea...im not at the campus yet but a lot of my friends told me nobody talks about the game. Everyone's still down. It sucks. But Booty isnt playing this week. Mark Sanchez has the start. Let's see what he can do. I honestly didnt see anything from JDB that stood out. He just seemed like an average quaterback on a great team.
That sounds eerilly familiar USC will rebound and given how much the pollsters love them could concievably make the championship game with 1 loss, esp if Florida beats LSU in the SEC title game.
Thats assuming LSU and FL make it to the SEC title game. We still have to beat 'Bama, Kentucky , Auburn , Arkansas , Ole Miss . And South Carolina may just win the East.
At this point, I'm predicting Ohio State and USC in the title game. I think USC should win out with their schedule and a loss should help get them back on track. I agree with Frank: LSU just has too tough of a road compared to Ohio State and USC. If LSU were in the Pac/Big 10, I'd have them locked. OSU plays at Penn State and Michigan and hosts Wisconsin and Illinois. I'd wager today that they'll be favored in all of those matchups. USC goes to Oregon, Arizona State, and Cal, which will be tests, but I'd wager again that they'll be favored.
Here's Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel's take on the new evidence in the Reggie Bush scandal: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_blogs/football/ncaa/2007/10/examining-latest-reggie-bush-twist.html
I'm not saying we can't get it done I'm just saying we just have the toughest schedule as does everyone in the SEC.
That was what the post meant; LSU might get it done, but has a tougher road than OSU and USC. (lol and don't say "we" unless you're on the team )
For $50K, they need to teach you how to spell tuition lol I think most of us who went to college on our own dollar still have to pay for it, I know I still do. You can say "we" all you want, it just takes away the impartiality of any future posts.
lol...oops. Eh...im hispanic, we're not good with grammar. I honestly could see USC losing another game or 2 this year if they dont get thier quaterback situation settled. Carol said Sanchez is starting cause of Booty's broken finger, but i think he really wants to see what Sanchez can do. Oregon is gonna be a tough matchup, but im really worried about a lost happening at ASU. That game just stands out to me, as one of those quiet losses on the horizon that not many pay attention to.
Thankfully I'm a Florida resident and was one when I went to UF. Pretty easy to get a 100% scholarship to public schools in FL. When I applied, you needed a 1270 SAT score (out of 1600), 3.5 weighted GPA, and 75 hours of community service. Pretty easy...and you just needed to maintain a 3.0 GPA at the end of each school year to keep it. You also got $300 a semester for books, which I never spent and bought other stuff. Only had to pay for living expenses, which wasn't much in Gainesville. Large public schools with tons of money FTW!
Please list them because I only count 2.5. Nebraska in 1997 (.5), OU in 2000, and Texas in 2005. Big 8 =/= Big 12.
