You're missing a not-so-subtle distinction, which is that a $104m Picasso painting was priced by the market over decades, not by the artist. Lamborghini stuck an outrageous window sticker on the Reventon, and it was a brilliant move for them. Apart from the "someone who has hundreds of millions in the bank is on another playing field and can blow it on whatever he wants" rationale, I don't see the buyers getting anything close to $1M in value. Do I care? Probably not, although I respect the Lamborghini marque and hate to see it milked like this. That said, these cars may still go for $1M in a decade, so who knows. +1 Back off - I already have a deposit on Ferruccio number 4 of 10.
IMO, the Reventon is the best Lamborghini so far. And there's still a lot of interest in the car.. even though its a one off, Google hits for "Lamborghini Reventon".. "Results 1 - 10 of about 670,00". And it was also on the top of Yahoo's most popular preview car models today. The funny thing about the comments about the Reventon are they are similar to comments about the Countach.. too kit like, too radical, not enough this or that. It's a Lamborghini, it's in your face as it should be. You can always argue about the price. It sure as hell isn't cheap. But I'd buy one over any garage queen any day.
controversy is always popular. not from what ive seen they arent i too have seen this comment once or twice. however the majority of comments with the word kit in them seem to be slating the fact its a murci with bodykit as opposed to it being like a kit car too radical ? its a murcielago with a bodykit - how is that radical ? is it ? i like the murci design - its pretty but still shocking like a Lambo should be. when the Reventon was announced i looked forward to seeing another new radical design in true Lambo tradition. however all we got was an LP640 with a bodykit - yes a radical ish bodykit but still the bones of a murcielago underneath it. the only really new bit was the name. would you really ? as i said earlier in the thread id rather buy a normal LP640 and several other exotics with the money left over rather than a Reventon. the only thing this car has going for it is its rarity value - and that is (imo) artificial look id love to see Lamborghini make an Enzo type car - limited edition, unique chassis, shattering performance but this isnt it. The only hypercar part of this is its price tag, and that (again imo) is undeserved.
You have a lot of opinions about Lamborghini owners. Why aren't you supporting this site by paying for the annual membership. Image Unavailable, Please Login
in fact dont try again. either debate the points at hand or dont - its your call and i dont give 2 sh*ts whatever your decision. but dont try to cause trouble with me on here, your shallow attempt sort of leads me to believe you cant debate and need to take things to a more personal level. have a nice day
Then go out and insult people on the street. Bandwidth isn't free. Servers aren't free, software isn't free. The operators of the board need to eat. Why not support the board if you are such a Lamborghini enthusiast.
There is a whole lot of that "rarity" thing going around lately, catering to the stupid new money people. A few examples http://www.stuff.co.nz/317440a14457.html A 14KUSD Desert. I hate it... Because it's 14K??? No, because it's a 10$ fruit cocktail and a 13,990$ gem stone. I can freaking create a 20,000USD desert myself, just get one of my Gran's gem stones and buy a frozen creme brulee in a store. Voila!!! Russian dude is in Guiness book. If!!! The desert was 14K and consisted of only food, I WOULD have approved. I.E. A parfait made from the milk of the most sacred cow in India, cooked with butter of the last remaining Siberian Flying Goat and sprinkled with ground up funny bone of Tutanhamen. No props to artificially increase value like having Angelina Jolie gargle the milk, or have the President of France serve it to you. Take the 100$ Hamburger. I don't think it's a rip-off... because you essentially get 100$ worth of products in it, Kobe beef, caviar, (obviously minus service and actual preparation.) It's not a Big Mac with 20$ notes instead of lettuce. Just like a 1,000,000 dress, is actually a 1,000$ one with 999,000USD worth of diamonds on it... which will be taken off after a fashion show. There is a Vacheron Constantin watch, that is very expensive and unique. It's a skeleton with two covers that are enamel drawings. Now it's rarity comes from the fact that only 2 people in Switzerland actually know how to paint on enamel and it phusically takes them a lot of time to paint the picture and that is what restricts the numbers built hence upping the price. The Reventon is not a privately commisioned coachbuilding job based on a sold out limited production Ferrari. It's a bodykit on a mass produced car, that is still on sale. It's only claim to fame is that Lambo artificially restricted it's production numbers.
I keep hearing that this car is a body kit on an LP640. Do you guys actually KNOW it's a body kit on a LP640 or is this purely speculation based on the pictures on the internet?
...on nothing! It being a new construction, hence the colossal price tag. Or at least different enough that developement cost were high. I'm not saying it is, I don't know, but there is a lot of vitriol from experts who claim to KNOW what this car is. With all due respect and a little smiley thingy , no you don't.
Lambo themselves say it's a re-interpretation of the LP640. It looks like a 640, sounds like a 640, drives like a 640... It's a duck??????
Because he's not a Lamborghini enthusiast!!!!! He doesn't see the Reventon for what it is, he sees it as an attempt at Lamborghini trying please him and hes disappointed.
all the magazines are saying its got LP640 running gear (aka chassis etc) and the only mod to the running gear is a blueprinted engine. heres the press release (which also confirms its LP640 based)
