very rare models (all scale)

Very rare and a bargain, but part of the reason for the low price is probably because the top the rear wing that connects the uprights for it is missing...



Top quality 1/43rds with engine detail and opening doors and hoods are now near $2000 built up; sometimes as much as $10,000 (the best Japanese builders are actually getting that much)! Personally, I think Alain Bouissou is the best of them all, but he only does Bugattis. They run about $3000 each. Again, you can click on any photo to blow it up or see additional photos of that particular model.

Here is the engine compartment of a Bugatti T35C he did....and yes, it's 1/43rd scale! The hood straps on his models even buckle and unbuckle, and the louvers are real; not just painted lines!!!!

Forgive me, but that "F40" looks...well.... horrible.

And it is no LM either.

 

It's not THAT bad....and it is VERY rare. Have you seen how expensive the RD Marmande hand carved wood models in 1/43rd have become....and they are crude (but charming) as hell. They were about 10 Frf in the early 1970s, and are now worth about $250 each!!!

 

I really can't find anything even remotely decent on this model. Everything is wrong. Overall shape and dimensions are just way off, and lets not even begin about the detailling. Even the built itself is way below standard. Perhaps mr Conti had a little bit too much Chianti for dinner since he can do much better. This is just unacceptable rubish.

 

Than I guess the RD Marmande models have no appeal for you either...

Well, I can appreciate it as a man made sculpture made from scratch, but not as a genuine representation of the real deal.

 

The F40 was made around 1988.
At that time this was a very good modell.
I think you should see it in original condition. The state its is in right now, after some restorationwork, it will look a lot better!
Its not the state but the rarity that makes it special.
You see these models rarely. This is the first I see besides the ones I had.
Than there is the Conti name, which makes it even more special.

I bought my kits at Milano43, at the time one of the most renowned shops worldwide, they also made the TSSK mailordercatalogue.
Never saw them anywhere else. As said before, I think the models I sold are up for sale again. I'll ask the seller to mail me some pics.

Marnix, don't compare this to a modern handbuilt, its no match, but very rare nontheless.

 

I know it is rare, but that is no criterium for quality. From the pic it looks like really poor built quality. I'd have to see it once it is restored, but the overall shape is so far off the mark, it will never be a decent model.

Besides, factorybuilt AMR's from back in the 80's are much, much better than this. And the question remains, why is it called an LM when it is clearly a street version? Surely mr Conti knows the difference?

Well, anyway, as long as the new owner enjoys it, it is fine with me

 

I'm happy with the deal I got. I like a piece of history...sort of like the old Mark Europa that I picked up.

I dusted the Conti. It looks shinier & more presentable. Still need to reattach the windows and windshields. Haven't driven it yet, but so far so good.

Are you aware that there are two different castings of the Marc Europa GTO? One is slightly bigger than the other. They also did a Porsche 904 and a Ford GT. I have only seen one of the Ford GTs in 40 years of collecting! They all came in a flimsy cardboard box, and it is rarer than the models, and worth as much as them to some people!

 

and thats all that really matters.

Have the Tron Special to (nr.89). Had been looking for a long time and found it last year. One of my alltime favourites.
The 410SA by MR is really great, they made it again as a looksmart in other colors.

Thanks Moriaan1... All my MR's were purchased prior to MR changing the wheel design on the vintage Ferrari models. It was my understanding that BBR and MR are brothers and got in a family tiff back then and MR was getting his wheels from his brother BBR. After the tiff, MR had to get another designer to make his vintage (Borrani) wheels for his models. I am not sure how true this story is but MR changed the wheels and they never seemed quite right to me after that (appearance wise -IMO). Havent bought a MR vintage model since.
