I currently have an Escort Passport 8500, it's pretty old, 4 years I suppose. Recently, it has been displaying "Service Required", where do I go from here? Send it back? Thank you for the help.
That would be the best course of action as they will be able to diagnose and repair it better than anyone else.
I have a similar aged Escort 8500 and notice of late that I get a lot of Laser warnings in places where there certainly is no Police presence shooting Lasers (coming down my driveway in a private neighborhood for instance). Does any one know if new active cruise control uses Laser that would set these off? I haven't called Escort yet but could I guess; I suspect you get the full pitch to buy a new one.
My Escort 8500 was going out, and I just traded it in for a V1, it's much newer technology, if not atleast trade it in for the x50/9500, see if Escort will give you some credit towards a purchase of one of their other systems.
First off, the only thing you can do if your radar detector detected a detection fault is send it back for repair. I've have nothing but Valentine1s for years, and when one of them went bad... they sent me a new one. Periodically, I've sent them back for the latest software updates, too, which I'd recommend. Next, I've been rocking a Passport 9500i in the GT3. While I miss the arrows, you can get back to the basics of radar detection: Slow down when it makes noise. After you get all erroneous signals marked in the GPS system, it's a great, great, great detector. Saved me in the Gallardo a few months ago over near Santa Monica Airport. Motorcycle cops setup a speed trap on Airport Boulevard in the 20mph zone. I was going a tad bit faster. Cop pulled me over because I had no front plate (I laughed - Car registered in NY), but he was more interested in how I knew they were there. "Radar went off" I told him. "There's always radar over here" he said. I showed him the passport and he was genuinely impressed with the system. Finally, and this is most annoying, is that the distance cruise controls found in most Infiniti and some Mercedes-Benz cars will set off the laser detector on your radar detector. The distance measuring mechanism used by the distance cruise control systems and emergency braking systems use lasers.
Yeah that is annoying. And worse is the fact that I cannot get a Radar detector in my Mbenz because of the distronic radar that cannot be turned off. Its actually a great feature though. I drove from Wayne to Forked River without ever touching the brakes or the gas pedal.
if u call cincinati microwave, they will give you the sequence to reset the 8500. I have had to do this on two non X50s that i use in my cars. They act up on occasion if i keep them on for a while in the garage with the key in the ACC position. I got my 8500s cheap, but I will eventually go to the v1, x50 or 9500 when I see a deal
Anthony, I sent you a PM. Do you know of any shops that can do this installation without disrupting the Distronic plus in the S? I have been told its not possible. Thanks
