He makes me wanna hurl whenever I hear his radio commercials or see him on TV. VERY annoying and I'd never buy from his shops. Same with George Zimmer. "I guarantee I will not give him my business!" Then 'Paul' from the Diamond Center, pitching to all the trailer trash in the valley.

I loved seeing that art in the marsh as I was growing up. My favorite was the airplane on a pillar out in the water with Snoopy as the pilot. So cool. They should never have taken that icon down. Sign of the times, man

My friends and I made trains ripping down the waterslides in junior high!

Reminds me of when I used to stay up until 3 in the morning to watch Godzilla movies. Also reminds me of Ultraman. I used to run around everywhere with a penlight held high

    Big mustache+cheesy grin=very sleezy.
How about Dr. Don from KFRC. I hear they are back BTW

Saw the bushman after the Blue Angels show.

There's the large Levitz sign on 880. I have always used it as a landmark to gauge distance to home. Then the Oakland Coliseum. They got rid of Castle Golf & Games in the adjacent parking lot. I also love the smell of the Wonderbread factory just a little further down the road. I wish that there was a Doggie Diner still around

With locations in Cupertino, Walnut Creek, San Mateo and Novato.......

NO WAIT!! Not in Novato anymore!! Seriously, my wife came home a month or so ago and said "You know the Shane company?? They don't have a location in Novato anymore!! They aren't saying it on the radio ads so it must have gone out of business."

Sure enough, they don't say Novato anymore.

Funny how that stuff sticks with you....

There is something worse than the Shane Company on TV now... I forget it's name, but it's a freaking pawn shop with low budget commercial shot by a 4 year old. And at the end they always say, "Since 1962 (?), we must be doing something right"

I remember / have seen all of these and never really thought about them. I guess it the things you see daily and then when there are all of a sudden gone you realize how memory sticking they were / are.

I use to love going down to Happy Days in Campbell. I remember going their as a kid and seeing all the old school customs. Marine World was still on Marine World drive, before it moved to Vallejo, but they never changed the signs from the freeway. The old Capital Drive In, it’s only a matter of time before they shut that place down and it just becomes the flee market. There use to be a Bullwinkle’s on Lawrence and Homestead. There are a bunch of things that bring back old memories.

I remember his name being Capt. Satellite, and he had this horrible/great aluminium spray-painted cardboard box robot.

I still got a hand signed pic for me from him.

A few more icons that popped into my head:

The HUGE TREE as you come off the Pan Handle into GG Park, just off to the right. What the hell kind of tree is that anyway!?????

The Chinatown entrance where Grant Ave. begins.

the "steep part" of Lombard... I bicycled down that thing for a friend taking cinematography... it was chase scene and I was afraid I'd slip on the cobble stones and get a big case of road rash.

Didn't Jack-In-The-Box used to have a clown head to take your orders or was that something else?

Oh, I can't beleive I missed the UNIN 76 Digital clock off the Bay Bridge!

    The J-Town Pagoda

Yes. This one is in a museum in San Diego. Obviously it reflects one specific location and era, but there are other different types.

    good ones:

JIBox was a clown, thus Jack is back which works well.

bit north but: C&H sugar company

Bear Flag statue in Sonoma: kids always climed to the top, then jump........

SF: That guy that stacks rocks on top of rocks by the Golden gate bridge: used to be near Palace of Fine Arts.

Union Square during Christmas....OR the Marina homes decorated up.

that old tree cross section at the lookout of GoldenGate Marin side.

rainbow of the tunnel to Marin

AND don't forget:, ummmmm, Irish Coffee.....Buena Vista on a foggy morning. with your Ferrari parked right, out, side.

Charlie and Humphrey...I used to love watching that for some reason...when he would sneeze the lamp off of the table. LOL
"1001 stupid things to do. Borrow something without asking..."

I've never seen the JIBox clown at the drive-thru. That was from 1980 though. And then they decided to blow up the clown in a commercial and it became branded under another name. In 1995, they brought Jack back and he walked into the boardroom and then he blew up the boardroom. All in a commercial...:p

How about the Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk commercial - "ahh hahaha wipeout" music starts...I still like going there.

OK, who remembers the Coppertone Billboard on 101 South of HWY 17 (880 now) of the young girl with the scraggely dog pulling down the bathing suit bottom?

When JITB changed, I remember the commercials blowing up the Jack!

Yeah... I do. It was there ever since the later part of the 70s. I remember driving with my parents going back-in-forth from Santa Clara to San Jose and seeing the Coppertone Billboard on 101. Nice little butt! =-)
