I love how like a dozen or so posts ago crafty was complaining that this thread was littered with Pantera-bashing and just wanted to talk about replicas - now he's going great guns at it once he's realised how fun it is!
The Pantera bashing wasnt at the core of the complaint.... it was the arguing with it over the virtues of exotic cars that was getting tedious. Feeding a troll only makes it worse - this one especially. Surely the object of bashing a troll is to make it be quiet. If you are going to bash it... bash it hard enough so it is reduced to 2 word responses.... like its "How Lame" answer. My latest question "How old are you?" for example, requires an even shorter response than 2 words, as I am quite sure that the answer requires one... MAYBE two numerals.
I'm betting less than two decades but we may have to wait a while until mum let's him back on her computer
Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but let me just state, that there are quite a few Ferrari owners who also own a replica (from the top of my head 6 folks instantly come to mind, all personal friends). And some of them are very wealthy men. But there are only 38 (?) real Ferrari 250 GTOs out there, but many more Ferrari collectors. Hence all the 250 GTEs that get butchered. Similar arguments go for P4s, Porsche Kurzhecks, GT40s etc etc. I guess you also haven't been to many Ferrari events: Often replicas are welcome and quite the attraction. In a world where everybody drives a 308, 355, 360 etc it is nice to see a vintage Ferrari, even if it is a fake. Regarding the yellow card: It is a mild form of penalty a mod can give a user. If given a particular post has a yellow (or red) card next to it. I hate to ban folks, but sometimes language gets out of hand in a heated debate.
Haha, this one will go down well. Start here: ---> http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71856
thanks, but i wasn't looking for permission. well, in the real world, those wealthy men who have their replicas are a laughing stock. it's insane....."gee...i can't get a 250GTO....so i know!!!....i'll make a pretend one" come on...you have to be bloody kidding me! what's next? "hey...they won't sell me the mona lisa...so i know!!! i'll photo copy it and put THAT on my wall" puhlease!!! mate...if that's what you seriously think, then you have all the pity i can muster for you (none) fake is fake. what an absurd comment. *shudder* i'm the last person to EVER talk about originality and history and blah blah...i reckon all that stuff's crap, to a degree....but to make a fake anything is just bad form. it there are 20 cars in the world...then that's just too bad....to try and make it 21...pathetic. ahhhhhhhh...i feel better now.
So you're saying cars like this are a blight on society? I think I sincerely dissagree, and was very awed with these replicas. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually people do hang "replicas" of art on their walls. It's called lithographs and prints. Any good art gallery sells them. Heck, the Louvre gift shop sells them as well. It doesn't matter as much what I think, but what the organizers and the audience of glamorous events think: Goodwood's Festival of Speed and Revival of Speed regularly have replicas on display and on the track. As do many other prestigious events around the world. Regarding the 21st car vs the 20 originals: You could even argue that a replica is more honest than some of the attempts of rebuilding an original car. By now there are probably more "original" 250 GTOs than there ever were. Oh and btw: Ferrari's own museum, the Galleria in Maranello has replicas on display. Not surprisingly, many museums do that for all kinds of exhibits.
I'm completely with Tifosi12 on this one, replicas or reproductions done in the right spirit of things and with the right attention to detail are worthwhile ventures. Here's an example of a recently-sold '61 250GT California Spyder that was built by Modena Motors originally that was so accurate, Ferrari actually sued them to stop building them and won! As a result Modena Motors built fewer than 100 of these ever. This was recently listed around $68k and IIRC does indeed use a chevy 350 V8, but I could be wrong about that. Neither here nor there with that I suppose. I would defer to the Ferrari gods to tell me what one of the few originals would be worth -- 5m? 10m? I don't even know; when did the last real one change hands? Some sort of unconscionable number in any case. There is something to be said for lacking the original glorious V12 though. All in all to me, this type car is a very justifiable reproduction. I suspect Ferrari would beg to differ. I can't talk for those, but I can assure you that all the cars on these pics here are replicas (except for the shot of the Galleria, where I believe only the first car is a replica, but I'm no expert). BTW: Also look at the environment they're in. Very much in the midst of things. Yep, and among the 13 Ferraris a friend of mine owns, one is a 250 Testarossa recreation. It cost him well into 6 figures. Also, a replica built by someone I know will easily cost 200k. The yellow 250 GTO Spyder looks like the one he built for Frank Beard.
They must be using a tube chassis design of there own?. Iv'e seen a few of them built on 300ZX chassis with a V-8 used for power that costed them less than 20k to replicate like the one in the movie from 1986. Nothing comes close to the orginal though I saw one in a glass case before very nice. Couldn't imagine paying 5mil for it.
The GT40 is very nice If only those wheren't so expensive id get one. Now do some of these replicas use actual ferrari powerplants?.
The Ferraris in my pics are all based on real Ferraris like 250 GTE etc. The Cobra is a "continuation" from Superformance. The GT40 I shot at Goodwood, don't know any details other than that it is a replica indeed.
Hmm no wonder they are so pricey. Here's a Murcielago LP640 Yes its fiero based. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good on them. If I had spent $millions on R&D to create something amazing then some guy comes along and copies my stuff at a lower quality but still selling it with MY name attached to it I'd be pretty pissed really.
I think those R&D millions (really?) have been paid for long time ago by the sold out production run from Ferrari. Ferrari could avoid the court cases AND make more money if they'd look into continuation runs or license recreations.
They could, and maybe they want to oneday so they have every right to protect their investment in the mean time by putting an embargo on cheap copies. Imagine if you took one of Marcel Massini's books, photocopied it and started selling it cheaply to all the people who want one but can't find a copy that they can afford...
Many a true word is spoken in jest, Andreas. Indeed, one Swiss owner of a $300K Norwood P4 replica did just that - in anticipation of a visit from Ferrari Classiche.
whatever floats your boat. i think what i think, some of you guys like fakes. good for you...no...really.
