Ok, so. I have been thinking about this for a while. There has been a declining interest in this section. I know. So now that a few of you have expressed the same feeling I have decided to create this thread for you guys to rant, add ideas, rant some more, give advice as to what we can do to make this section fun again. This topic has been spilling onto other threads so lets keep it all here. Deal?

Walter brought up a good point. We should not have dedicated thread such as Ontario, Montreal, BC, Regina, Waterloo etc. etc. etc. Instead we should have one spotters thread. I have been through this in the Euro section where I am also a mod and was one of the many that wanted dedicated language threads. I find there is good and bad to both. What do you guys think? I will post a poll for this.

    Let's hear it.

Would be nice to have the following threads

    A BS/off topic thread
Regional threads, not just for spotting but for local events.
A thread we can discuss cars that are for sale in Canada/ again this is a Ferrari forum.

The problem I am having, is that some newer members make useless posts

i have a beef i'd like to say something about.
I talk about a car for sale or even put up a picture and i get private messages saying i can't do that because i'm not a sponsor which is fine and i understand. Note i tried to become a sponsor and i was not allowed at first because Rob thought i was another chat site for whatever reason.
Now certain member advertise their profession and company logo all over pictures that they post and start threads on, so how come they can do it or do they get private messages as well and just ignore them and do it over and over and over again?

We should keep all the City threads for sure, alot of us come here to post in the city thread's and post are spots picture's etc, they should stay.

as for my self, ill try not to post pointless bs to help this section out.

I still don't know why we have an Ontario thread, and an Ottawa thread. Get rid of the Ontario thread and call it the Toronto thread, or call it the 416/905 thread or something.

Why do people still get blasted for advertising or for showing a car for sale? its not a big deal as long as they don't have a dedicated thread containing their inventory. A small classified thread should be allowed here, which would be a benefit for American F-chatters to see what we have for sale up in Canada.

There have been alot of good discussion recently in some "independent threads", (which seem to get most of the posts).

Some new Canadian members would be great, because without fresh new topics and opinions from newbs then the site gets boring. Who does the advertising for F-chat?

You should change the whole ontario section to the spotters thread because thats the bulk of the content here. I find it boring so I dont bother even looking here anymore (until this topic popped up - wow something new!). My flame suit is on now for what im about to say..... do I really care if someone saw an AMG whatever at such and such a location on wednesday night? No I dont but thats just me but I doubt im alone, It just seems lame so I avoid the area to avoid another spotting being posted.

I'm defenetly with James on that one. I can understand someone saying don't start 10 different threads for 10 different cars but lets say James wants to post one thread with different cars on sale and he can update it as cars are sold new cars come in that should be allowed. Same with other canadians selling their cars. one thread per member to list their car(s) on sale should be ok. Of course none of this I have my 1995 Pontiac on sale Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, etc. only.

Lets clairfy a few things :

Sponsers May advertise cars, that the way it is, and will continue. If you wanna sell a car, this is not the forum for it, regardless of how many posts you have.....thats a no, no. James i understand your point, and i know for a fact i have given you alot of flexible room on this, and you have never abused it....i have actual let alot of the members on here do many things in that nature. What we can not tolerate is a thread that say "99 355 for sale".

As for posts and threads started that are meaningless, i think all of fchat is running into this wall. Lets face it, threads like "Belts intervals" have been discussed on Fchat 1,000 times already, all we can do (for newer members) is merge threads....the report police thing is getting tired right now. As for the new users, i think everyone needs to have alittle more tolerance, if you cant, there is no use starting a flame....if it does get out of hand, there is always a Mod you can PM....personally in 3 odd year, i havent seen this to be an issue.

As for spotters threads, this one annoys me, Ferraris are vrare enough (still) in Canada all these threads are getting silly. THe threads shoudl be as follows (province only)....Therefore, it should be a Ontario Spotters thread, Quebec Spotters thread, Alberta spotters thread...and so on. Ultimately i believe for 2008 that should be the new direction....it avoids the hassle...after all, whether you like it or not, an Ottawa fcar is part of Ontario...and a Montreal spot is part of Quebec....Vasco, i think we should do this on a poll just to make sure the majority around here agree with that format.

Disagree......there should be a Toronto thread, a Montreal thread. There are enough F and L cars around these cities to permit its own thread.

I think we could also use a "Kleinburg Thread"........ LOL :D:D

Thats fine, i dont have to agree, seems like that is what people on here are voting for anyhow...

If you want a Klineberg thread, go ahead....i think we should eventually get real specific...go by street eventually....given the production numbers of these cars (soon) it will be a hourly spot ;)

Thanks for the post Rick. James as we spoke before, I'd love it if we can do that with the ads. You must remember, I too am in the very same business and I can use the sales and I'd like to post cars up. But this is Rob's site and it's Rob's rules. Rick and I are just here to enforce them so to speak. As Rick stated, we have let a bit slide. Best thing to do is pick up the leads and PM here and PM there. James, you know me...i'm always up to help. Not trying to be a geek here :D

Rick I also agree. I think we should keep the Province threads. The Ottawa thread was started about 65 times and failed. That should be a hint. In that case it should be the Ontario thread and that's it!

Also, I think people especially the younger guys should think before posting and also before they start new threads. We realize that you mean well and are enthusiastic. But as Todd and VanCooper has stated there are too many posts containing the same pics, the same BS and it should be cut short. Don't get me wrong, this should not be a tight-arsed place to be. God knows I like to joke around but there should be second thoughts before posting. Unfortunatly there are many good members and owners who avoid this place. I'd want them back.

Please keep this thread going. Let us know your thoughts.

For keeping the BS/randomness into another thread, you guys tried that and it hasn't worked too well. Most of the OT conversational material (aka randomness) spills into the Ontario Thread, or so is my observation - despite the fact that we have a dedicated OT section here.

All in all, you two are doing a good job of keeping things in line, not that much happens around here to warrant a vigilant eye!

As for the car sales posts, I don't think any public forum that attracts a crowd will allow people to advertise without paying for it. That's what sponsorship and FerrariAds are for.

    Well , my 2 cents:

Agree with ToddB - to much BS , just random not car related BS. We ALL post Off-topic things sometimes but not as much as some users
Why not to ban for a couple days for off-topic or brutal BS ? I mean if it's serious one and really really not car-related .It works on many forums .Fight BS

Why not to have a humor thread ?

+ Why not to make uploading pictures limit - seriously , when some guys here post 80-100 same pics on one page I just have to skip that page - what If I want to read other 18 posts on that page ? I just can't reach those posts

And seriously don't post pics of freakin AMGs , masers QPs , Bentley CGTs etc.... for example I ( I am not the only person ) spot this every freakin day , it's not that exotic.

LOL, calm down. Didnt you just arrive last month? You are gonna blow a fuse soon at that rate LOL. I agree the BS and duplicate photo's should stop. If a user is not subscribed then they have a picture post limit. If its a paid user then they have no limit. Obviously because that's why they paid to be here. But should be used with discrsecion.

I agree with everyone here so far... Change is good.

I like the California section because when you click that region, at the top you get the Backroom lounge link and everything else can be posted below. Why not have BC, AB, ON, Quebec, etc. sections at the top and all other non provincial related talk at the bottom? Inside the Prov sections, We could break it down into For sale, Spotting, OT City talk etc.... Even have a moderator in each region to help out. I also agree with some of the younger guys with the 2000+ posts, but we also have the ignore feature that works well :D

    Cheers

well i was looking back at the old thread called "the Vancouver spotters thread #2" about 1 week ago, people like salar and other f-chatters spot gallardo's ferrari's in the winter to, not as much but they still do get spotted here and there.

The problem with most of the threads is that people who have nothing useful to say post in the Canada section instead.

    Hey brother,

I tried to sticky the province threads to keep things organized but I was quickly shot down. :)

You say inside the province sections you want to divide it more? That would be way too confusing. And remember, you can't advertize. Not sure why nobody can understand this. And again, it aint my rules! :)

A moderator for every section? Don't think so. Let's put it this way...you know the Maytag guy in the commercials? That's how I feel around here. Not a hard job managing the section let alone a seperate mod for every CDN section as you mention.

For the first time in a long while I must agree with Newman. It is terribly boring here now, and I must admit I don't come by too often. I also don't care to see pictures of cars in dealerships even if they are Ferraris/Lambos. Just seems to be the same nonsense over and over again...:(

I do enjoy a good flame war once in a while and a lot of the ball breaking is fun to read, but those are few and far between...
As far as people advertising... everyone should do that in the Classified section. If you impose it on one person you should impose it on everyone.
