    What is it with these new mowers (of recent years) that have a pull start, and NO cable control for the carbureter that would allow one to increase/decrease engine speed according to grass hight, etc? Seems like the thing screams a gazzillion rpm's , even if you have a large patch of sparsely growing grass, not requiring the high engine revs......Thanks!

    So, do you have the same problem? Engine regulated to "high" as a factory default, I presume? Anybody else?? I prefer to pull out my cheap Murray from 1995.....lighter, more nimble, and it has a cable regulated carb!! To me, these are more environmentally friendly(trying to put a "green" twist to this thread, maybe it will attract more chatters to comment.....esp from Ecotopia area....you know....Pacific Northwest region.....)

    This TORO IS A GAS GUZZLER, AND A VERY BIG CONTRIBUTOR OF GREENHOUSE GASSES1!!!

    Sorry, I get it...they still have the engine control.....you are lucky to have this, fellow chatter. I, on the other hand, am doomed with NO control during a mow of thin grass area.

    LOL.....well, a major depends if you decide to have just the spark plug replaced, OR spark plug, oil change, AND (the big one, for Toro Rosso marques), blades sharpened. You may be looking at $40-45 for a TOTAL.....LOLOLOL!!

    If the budget is tight, you can opt for deferred maintenence on the blades.....Much like the belts on a 308.

    Electric mower - problem solved.

    And they work quite well in wet, foot tall Florida grass, too :)

    I have one of those silly push mowers (reel). If my grass is long I have to go over it twice. Walking faster doesn't seem to help. :)

    I have a Troy Bilt that also has NO throttle control. Very strange. But it does start with only 1 pull of the cord nearly every time. And the throttle pre-set is not really very high. Overall, it works better than older mowers.

    Yup, 1 pull...I can agree with that. My Murray, though, 2 pulls.

    Dont put down your reel mower! Not silly at all.....bigtime "green" mower, and best for excercise!!!! So it doesnt cut all the crab grass you have up north.......small price to pay for all the benefits.

    Thanks, wing, but problem is not solved. I have 2.5 acres of "yard", and use the push for hard to get to patches far away from the house. Elec cord wont work. It's a gas waster, this Toro.....
