I don't know, maybe comparable to the one on your computer screen? I guess the engine didn't shut off but the other systems were (fly by wire?? and so on) So I guess a "control-alt-delete" was in order!

 

According to Autosport.com there is a decent chance that the decision of the stewards not to penalize Williams and BMW will be overturned. However, it is at the stewards discretion whether or not the result will be that the next competitor (in this case Hamilton) will be moved up in the classification.

Article 168 of the international Sporting Code:

The stewards of the meeting shall declare the resulting amendment in the placings and awards, and they shall decide whether the next competitor should be moved up in the classification.

And as it seems it is very unlikely that the stewards are willing to handover the title to Hamilton.

I think this will be the end of it and Kimi is champ.

 

I think it was a gearbox problem, the McLaren techs apparently took the cover off while the car was parked after qualifying and were having a look at the gearbox. In the race I assume he had issues with the gearbox and was on the radio to the team and they had him switch systems. The car was under power and fired up while he was driving slowly up the hill. I can't confirm or deny this but it's what I heard. Maybe more will come out about it later.

Well, you push it and Jenson wakes up... Seriously, IIRC you push it during the start countdown, engine revvs up, and as soon as the lights go green you release it and the electronics control maximum power delivery to the wheels

You should watch LH's race last year in Turkey. You will be speechless. You really should acquant yourself with the junior classes and then you will have perspective on the young drivers

Looks like hamilton may not get any leverage if the appeal goes through. We'll see but if they are found guilty they should punish the manufacturers point system and not touch the drivers.. IMO

 

The appeal from McLaren is just sad. They are already leaving on a bad note. This one will leave a stink.
I hope the FIA leaves things alone, time to move onto the new season.
I have been really impressed by Kubica. He always improved from his initial grid position, and showed quite a bit of promise and fighting spirit, yet he was not reckless. Just type in Massa Kubica on youtube, which was really the best F1 2007 moment for me, aside from Kimi pulling off a victory.

Great driving, even more as Massa and Kubica got out of their cars and congratulated each other for the great drive. Was refreshing to see.

 

Here is one time the FIA could take a lesson from NASCAR. NASCAR may fine and suspens drivers and crew chiefs for having an illegal car, but their stance is that when the people leave the track they know who won the race. No changing the standings two weeks later. There seem to be enough loop holes in the regulation to let the stewards decision stand. The FIA needs to get with the 21st century and have permanent stewards for the entire series. They have the biggest budgets in racing and are the only organization with different people from race to race. To many chances for politics and nationalities to get in the way.

Well what do you expect. Last time I checked this site was called F-chat not KR FM FA LH MW MS chat. Except for a few we all support the red team regardless of the who the drivers are.

And BTW I still think LH is a great driver. He took a gamble in China by going for the win and he lost big time . His time will come soon.

 

Yes, I have been one of these people. And I still am. However, neither in what you just said, nor in any of my posts it is said that he is not talented and that he is not a good driver. On the contrary. I, myself, just like others here have always said that he is really impressive, but this does not stop him from being "cheese on a stick" and Ron's creation and definitely does not give him any rights over any of the other drivers. And we have all seen the obvious preferential treatment he got all year long.
Many times I said that what happened this year is a real shame mostly because he could have probably achieved the same success even without all the BS. Or maybe he wouldn't have. But we don't know for sure and this is why I feel cheated too, not just as a Ferrari fan, but as an F1 fan.
NOw about the appeal, it is kinda stupid IMO what McCheaters are doing. If they appeal the decision just because they think there should be penalty to the teams for illegal strategy ('cause that is what the fuel thing comes to in my eyes) then fine. Let it be. But if they are going after it, to try to crown Hamilton champion is just insane. Forget the past. They set the biggest precedent just months ago in the "current" season, themselves. If they expect the drivers to be punished than they should expect their drivers to be DQd from the whole season.
Also something I don't understand is the whole immunity BS. It was offered to the ML drivers IN RETURN for any info provided. Alonshole and de la Pink came forward and they are immune. Ok, I get this part. But Lewis is claiming he had nothing to do with any of it *didn't do anything wrong-EVER*. So he didn't have anything to offer and therefore did not get any deal. So why wasn't DQd. Just because his lawyer made a touching speech?! And this is not me trying to put the guy down or anything, just a legit question.

 

Absoluetly, never see any of that in F1. It reminds me of the Arnoux Villenenueve duel. However the international feed missed this and didn't show it live so I never saw it completely until youtube. :/ Regardless its awesome.

 

Your insight that LH was an impressive GP2 driver not only from the front of the pack but also from mid or back of the field is well taken --- that is why I qualified my observation by stating that I was not familiar with his driving prior to F1. If you re-read the OP however, you will notice my comment refers specifically to *this* season. In other words, past history, while interesting, won't ensure him victory and could, in fact, harm him by making him overconfident and careless.

My original observation remains that in his first season of F1 he has not seemed impressive in overtaking manouvers. And the question that begs to be asked, then, is was he impressive in the junior classes because he was really good, or because he was racing against lesser talents?

Again, I like LH and he may yet rise to the dominance in his sport that, say, Tiger Woods enjoys in his, but the jury is still out. Until he can manage a few come from behind moments, inspired car control in the rain and self control when under duress he still is just a very good driver with lots of promise, but not yet the gift from the gods of racing many people are making him out to be. Sometimes promising young talents that face few obstacles in their career flounder when faced with unfortunate incidents, such as was the case these last two races for LH. Other times they bounce back and it makes them better for the experience like Sebastian Vettel after Japan.

How do these numbers make LH one of the best come from behind drivers?
LH: 1 start from 10th ---> ended 9th. Improved his starting position in 4 races, lost positions in 5 races
FM (only as an example): 2 starts from 22 ----> ended 5 & 6. Improved in 4 races, lost positions in 6 races (last one was a gimme to Kimi)

So, why does LH get all the press? He's just a better, sexier story: Rookie, first driver with a black heritage, good looking, good speaker, good personality-camera loves him: He's basically the Barak Obama of F1. Not enough accomplished (yet) to go with the hype. When he gets to Tiger Wood's level of accomplishment, then, by all means hype away.
No one in the press wanted Kimi to win because he has the personality of a toadstool and the post race interviews would be as entertaining as watching paint dry.
As for me, I like come from behind stories: Kimi and Massa did that nicely yesterday and Vettel did it in China.

It is still too early to tell for Lewis, he is either going to be the greatest driver of the next few years or the greatest dissapointment- probably the former and it is too bad he's not wearing red, but the races need to be driven before we start knighting newbies.
