I'm looking at an ebay auction that is ending within the hour. Finally found something that will fit me, but it is FIA 86, two layer and states for 'race team'. Would this work? You can search or I can provide the link.

I'm only planning on using this for the 24 hours of Lemons event at the end of the year and perhaps a bit of karting.

Well, I won LeMons Detroit, so I should know...

Seriously, I think LeMons permits a one-layer suit; check the rules. Could be nomex, could be proban, would be bubblegum for all I care. My POV is that I don't want to be driving a $500 car with a one layer suit. My biggest concern was going shiny side down in a ball of flames, but luckly I didn't.

If I were you, I'd consider buying a two-layer nomex suit, with perhaps even a layer of nomex underwear. I wear Sparco and I get my gear from Dean Martin at Racer Bargains (http://www.racer91m.com/).

    It's motor racing. Don't skimp.

Not skimping. Got clarification. It's a two layer nomex and I plan on getting the undies for an additional layer as well.

I'll check out the site. Gotta get some booties to go with the gloves I already have. Neck collar and a few SA helmets are already in the arsenal from years of tracking.

Ironically, the HANS was of no use for LeMons--too much contact. If I had worn my karting collar, I would have been in great shape afterwards.

Check the rules for which SA helmets LeMons allows. They do tech everything.

Thanks. Will do. Mine are all SA2000, so not too worried. Rules just say SA95 or greater, IIRC.

What was the strain with the HANS? Was it the side to side? If I do run with a nomex collar, I'll need to trim mine down a bit. My helmet (Bieffe F1 GP) runs a little low, which lifts the helmet up a bit causing an added strain on my neck.

The HANS was truly irrelevant. Impact were longitudinal. Traffic would bottle up and *bam* you'd hit the car in front, then *bam* you'd get hit from behind. All about about 10 mph. My neck was a mess for days.

My old Bell didn't fit properly over my collar, but my new one does. I've never recommended a collar for motor racing, but LeMons demands it.

Two layers with undies should be fine.
However, I would not use a nomex suit for karting. Karting overalls are made of abrassive fabrics more suitable for that kind of racing (and they are cheap too)
