Anyone have any info on this 550 ?

It looks like a nice car.

 

I'm guessing that the reserve is much higher than the starting price. If not, it looks like someone might get a nice car at a great price.

 

On the surface, it appears to be worth looking in to. He's mentioning the original price so I'd be surprised if it was reasonable now.

It looks like a good car for around 95K or so.

 

I'm not buying the "only one with this paint" story. I think it's just Nero Daytona, which means this is certainly not the only 1998 car with that colour.

Strange story - why would Ferrari "upgrade their black by adding a little metallic in 1998" and then only make one car in that colour? Sounds like baloney to me.

Also has a rather unbecoming set of speakers in the trunk and a "pimp-my-ride" 14kt gold key but other than that it looks like a decent car.

To be honest, I am not that partial to Black on Black, but I must say this looks nice. Indeed, it's nice to find one that is a one-owner car, as the lister insists this 550 is.

What does he mean by "all Connolly interior"? Is this version more leather-clad than others? I did not realize there were varying degrees of leather interiors in the 550s.

Only knock I would say would be mileage. Een though 24k is by no means high-mileage, there seem to be a lot of nice 550s around and FS at 5-15k miles for the mid $90ks

I love the part about the extra wheel "in case I scrape the passenger rear wheel" - that's an awfully specific what-if. Sounds more like an admission.

 

You mean he doesn't actually say, "In case I scrape the passenger rear wheel backing out of the Starbucks on Wilshire on a rainy Friday night"? (Car still sounds nice, tho)

My first 550, had Nero Metallico, I am guessing this is the color he is reffering to.

It was an awesome color.

 

Make sure that the belt service has been done, along with other issues such as the motor mounts and the plenium hoses (there are three aren't there Darth!)

The belt service should be done every 5 years. So it should be due for its second one pretty soon.

9 years old and 24k miles - I think that's barely enough and I certainly wouldn't want a 5k mile/9yr example. Not enough use on these cars and things can go badly wrong.
The leather interior stuff is rubbish - all 550s had leather headlining - special option was quilted I believe.
From the pictures I note that the passenger airbag appears to be showing the tell-tale signs of leather shrinking due to heat and the glue giving up. Would be worth checking if this has also afflicted the rest of the dash, the usual problem, because it is expensive to fix or if the owner has had this done.
Ohh yeah - and I think the stereo is awful - who on earth wants to listen to booming bass when you could listen to screaming v12 instead

 

...mixing their Nero paint with just a little metallac and that is what the car has, it is the only one for 1998 that has this custom Ferrari paint...

I see as the only custom paint offered for all 550 in 1998, because in 1999 it became a standard colour in their spectrum of client choices.
I don't see the words that this is the only car in 1998 with this colour.
