FIA announces ten-year engine freeze for F1.......wtf???

They can always reverse it when this joker is gone.

 

So, the cars can't be developed further, there's more advanced technology on street cars, and there's little to no passing on the track. Tell me again why this is revered as the premier racing series?

Why should the engine manufacturers be obligated to supply other teams for a price that Max sets? If they are obligated to supply engines, then let supply and demand be the price factor. If any given engine ends up being best - say Toyota - then said team could have a nice little business selling to 5 other teams at 10m Euro/year. Thats not a bad addition to the bottom line.

Max just wants to turn it into a spec series and I am really surprised that Bernie doesn't just lay down the law with this chump.

 

Because it runs faster around any track than anything else.

Except a Caparo T1 that is.

 

They have to be very careful with what they are instituting in F1. I understand wanting to bring costs down, and enabling lesser-funded teams to have the chance to be more competitive, but this is, after all, the pinnacle of motorsports. F1 is supposed to have the absolute latest in cutting-edge technology.

So in 10 years from now, we will see the exact same engines that they are using in 2008? This will be very damaging to F1's image, and will quickly turn it into a lesser series, and a series where engine manufacturers will have no desire to compete in since they will not be able to show off their engineering prowess. Bad move, very bad move.

At least I rather have a 10 year engine freeze than some hybrid crap regulated into a F1 engine. And as Tony says: This can always be reversed once this moron is gone.

Just last night I was watching Clarkson's take on the Prius from the "Good, bad, ugly" DVD. They shot that POS to hell with a machine gun. Right on!

Don't know yet, as tests are underway. I read a couple of articles about the car and at least in theory it should outrun anything on the planet: It is basically a street legal F1. So it has the downforce, the weight advantage and the cornering capabilities of a F1, but it doesn't have to play by the F1 rules: Therefore it covers the wheels and the cabin, which produce enormous drag on regular F1s. It can also use whatever engine it wants and has therefore somewhat of an unlimited hp potential. And it would probably run for more than 600 km.

Based on Murray's simulations a Caparo T1 would currently be on pole position at Le Mans. Let's see what it'll do in testing.

He wasn't kidding around when he came up with the McLaren F1. This is even more radical than that was at its time.

 

Never take these things at face value. This is yet another tedious political powerplay from Mad Max. I don't know what they'll end up with, but the only thing you can guarantee is it won't be this. A fair bet it will be something pathetic though...

Probably true. Wasn't it only just a while ago they were saying that Hybrid's will be mandated in '10? What happened to that?

 

Mosley is always pushing for hybrid technology and the teams continue to stall. Every year it gets postponed to the next. Good thing.

Yes sir!!! That's exactly what I was thinking too. This series is a showcase. It needs to be treated like one.

 

If the teams don't like it they can leave the FIA umbrella and run a series unimpeded by the FIA and its politics. A lot of teams wanted to do just that a few years ago but couldn't get quite enough support to make it happen. Ferrari were instrumental in keeping F1 inside the FIA fold.

 

So the teams with the better engines will retain their advantage? That would be Mercedes and Ferrari?

How could a new team enter F1? Porsche would have to buy its engines from a rival? this should keep new teams from coimg in to F1.

This does not sound like a good move to me for F1.

Aerodynamics will be even more important. Advantage to the teams with wind tunnels (that work).

In my experience, any time you try to freeze technology, it will run over you. Looks like they are looking at NASCAR for their business model. That's not leading, that's following. Formula None?
