So, what are you drinking tonight? Pretty sure Kimi's drinking Mumm, and lots of it.

When you wrote these little nuggets, I saved the links on my computer, thinking... "I cannot wait to bring these complete gems back to light."

Glad to have a stalker. Frankly, I never even think of you ;)

I have Lynchburg Lemonade tonight. I am happy for Ferrari, and still dismayed by which Scuderia driver won the championship. I dislike Kimi, and only the fact that the Wunderkind DIDN'T get a championship is buoying my spirits.

2007 has a huge * on it. On to 2008. Forza Massa!

Haha. This season HAD a huge asterisk on it. Kimi winning the title basically against all odds (and apparently against numerous Ferrari supporters) has since erased that, thankfully.

What were you saying? Something about you being dead wrong, short sighted and close minded?

    Thought so.

I know how you feel. Too many times too many people take themselves and this sport too seriously. None of us are driving the cars or are team owners. What we post here is conjecture with some fact, mostly AFTER the fact analysis including myself. We dont need to shout each other down or spur insults. Kimi won, Ferrari is ok and in the end really...who cares now that the season is over. Time for ski season here in Europe!!!

Thanks. It adds at least 10 mph. :)

Can't wait to use it for real. Hopefully this winter on an indoor gokart track.

At the beginning of this season I started my own collection of "bon mots". I'm sure in a few years I'll be able to dig those out.

Meanwhile it would be a nice idea to send Mr. Windsor a copy of his Massappeal article. With #9 and #10 highlighted:

Actually not. There is at least one other FChatter who drove a F1 this year as well.

Besides: The BOSS and the Historic GP series are alive and well. In the States and abroad. There are quite a few F1 cars that get driven hard every year.

Also a friend of mine who races in the historic Can-Am series has driven F1. You can rent one for less than the price of a major on a 308. So it is not that uncommon anymore.

So what have you been using it for? Sitting at your computer desk with it on, visor down and making all of the appropriate sounds? Right down to a low grumble for when you have trouble with the gearbox? lol

    I have a helmet too.

It is nice to see the cars being used and pushed, with all the technology the new F1 cars have, they have fairly short lives {as work horses in F1} and I doubt that will be used much after they're sold due to being so finicky and needing so much tweaking.

    You bet. :)

It's just part of my F1 collection for the time being. My helmets get a sadly huge amount of downtime, so it is a good thing that they at least look decent. My MS replica helmet only got one sortie. :(

Wow, I did not realize that everyone here in this thread has been 100% correct on their positions during the season to be able to to go back and criticize another FChatter for their ideas at the time.

I certainly did not see the WDC having a chance of going this route before the first lap in Brazil. Oh well.

Making predictions or hoping "your" driver wins is one thing. Bashing the crap outta people and trying to drive facts down their throats and being dead wrong is quite another thing.

Yes and no: You're right about the technolgoy being finnicky etc and I thought too that these cars will get not much action anymore. And it is true, that if you sign up with the Clienti Corse programme from Ferrari, that they give you a standing army of engineers to keep your car running.
So I always thought, that F1 cars younger than 1995 (or thereabouts) would not get much more driving, but that's not the case for a couple of reasons:

    - F1 teams often sell the modern cars bar anything high tech, so often the computers, the steering wheels etc are gone
    - Traction control, ABS, ASR, stability control and paddle shifting actually help keeping the drivers on the road sunny side up and not overrevving the engines

So what happens is, that for instance the company I was driving the F1 with this year, are buying these modern cars and equip them with their own electronics bits and pieces. And this seems to be a trend: The company I rented my first F1 many years ago, meanwhile has "upgraded" those stick shift cars to more modern standards. It is what the customers want and it saves them on maintenance.

Point in case: This is not the steering wheel Damon Hill used in the Arrows but a generic wheel they came up with. It is interchangeable between their various F1 cars.

    +1

A few ski areas have opened in Colorado.

It always amazes me how some go right to nuclear war over F1. It is supposed to be entertainment. Life is too short to get upset over this.

    Forza Ferrari!

I have said I don't care who wins the WDC as long as its Kimi or Phil. I hope Phil gets a WDC someday. He deserves it. Hope he practices driving in the wet this winter. ;)

Phil Im close to Austrian,Swiss and German ski areas. Let me know how it looks stateside over the season. Bad here last year. Cooling off early so far.

+1 on Massa and a shot at the title. He is very capable and this year just might spark him to the next level. His new contract and the faith of the team is in his corner. Id like to see him win it. Im not sold yet that LH is just gonna walk all over it like this year. He had mucho help, crane, Hungary, Japan, tire use situation(dodged some penalty bullets).

Plus I think a couple teams are due to make a challenge such as BMW and Williams or even Red Bull. We just cant tell but we can sure rattle each other allllllllll about it like the best of them eh? :)

All good points I forgot about the electronics and technology being taken off of the cars. Of course that makes them easier to maintain.

About the team of techs they give you, isn't that to set the car up and work the bugs out, and that's it? If I bought a car I doubt they would come to North America with me.

The cars older than 1995 would be the ones most affordable {and without knowing} I would assume maintenance is a piece of cake compared to the newest ones available for purchase.

They would. And you'd be paying for them, whether you wanted or not. Don't you like Corse Classiche? It is a license to print money. For Ferrari.

True. The more standard a F1 is, the lower the costs. Still a Cossie powered late seventies F1 costs you at least a couple of grant per hour of running time. A historic race weekend is easily 10k. That is if nothing breaks or crashes.

The least expensive F1 cars to buy are late eighties, early nineties. But they can run only in the BOSS series and are too young for historic GP.

Doesn't matter: You already lost your prediction after the first race. No wins for Kimi in 2007.
