Keep your hands on the bars.....WOW !!!

    I don't think that keeping his hands on the bars would make any difference, I think the advice should be don't go so wide that you clip the hay bales.

    Actually, he nicked the wall on the inside of the turn prior to hitting the bales, that's when it hit the fan, why he had to let go of the bars and went wide.

    As you go through a turn on a motorcycle, you're actually steering in the opposite direction of the turn. My amateur guess is that knicking the inside wall probably straightened the bars slightly which made the bike stand up. (The spinning wheels on the bike act like a gyroscope and when the bars aren't turned, the bike naturally wants to stand up.) I'm guessing this made him sit up and, at speed, the wind probaby pushed him upright which pulled his arms away from the bars. All speculative, but this is what I'm guessing happened. Whatever the case, glad that he survived with minor injuries.
