Even though I own an F40, my dispassionate and realistic view is that it is "one of the greatest" Ferraris, but I have to stop short of describing it as one of the most beautiful (much as would like to). That honor is reserved for some hallowed others...

    Dear Comrade,

The 'V' shaped doodah is, I am quite certain part of the stock-in-trade of the later F-40. Mine is a nineteen ninety two model and it has a bent doodah as shown in your photograph. But why it has this bent doodah god alone knows. However he will materialise later as an aberration in the many faceted form of Comrade Joe Sackey - who knows everything.

CORRECTION . . . . . . Having just examined the English F-40 lurking so resplendantly within the motor room appearng so warm and cosily coddled against the 512TR I can report that the wastegate on this car is different and seems larger than that shown in the image of the flat doodah bar. I am turning cartwheels with glee over this matter as this is my first constructive post on this forum. I just hope that cant Joe Sackey doesn't fackin' blitz it - or RufMD come to that. Please, please will someone tell me I am right? I will not be able to live with myself if I have made another fack up. I am already under threat of excommunication by the goderator moderator himself.

    With kind regards,

    512 Tea Are

Thanks for your investigation Graham. I can confirm the workshop manual makes no reference to doodahs, so has proved a poorer investment than I had hoped. Will try "metal thingymajig" now.

    Comrade Graham and Al70:

Please post clear images of the differences between the items aforementioned. This talk of Doodahs has got me all confused and although I self-profess to know more about F40s than any human living, I havent a clue of what you speak. A set of images side-by-side always clarifies the truth as I have recently shown in obliterating the erroneous posts maade by individuals short on knowlege and tall on proclamations.

So, do me a favor and just post those facking images already. I am busy on hold on the phone where I spend most of the day trying to run a profitable business...

Joe, please check the linked photos around wastegate valve area. No1 link shows a straight metal frame above wastegate, the second (larger pic) an inverted V shape. Note also the different style of air filter.

<I have finally worked out how to post the photos>

I expect to be furnished forthwith the exact technical reasons for these changes and the chassis number it commenced with. Thanks Joe. :D

Humm, there are some differences there....I know that some have grey and some have black air boxes.

BUT, I have never seen/noticed the two different setups by the wastegate like that????

There are dozens of differences between the USA F40 and the rest-of-the-world cars including all that you see displayed. Interestingly the image of the Euro car looks a bit like a good scale model...

Yup, seems like US/Euro spec differences to me now.

Also, that left pic upon further investigation is indeed a Kyosho 1/12 model, they are that nice.

Another pic, life size for sure this time. Euro cars feature both designs, I think it comes down to age/chassis - just wondered if anyone knew more on it.

The black boxes are from the early F40s without cat converters, European spec. Later on, the European F40s also got cats, and similar rear subframes to the US car. However some small differences exist between the European and US subframes, but with the black boxes, it is early non cat Euro-cars.

Andrew, many moons ago when you posted, I took the liberty to "file" these away....thanks to you dad for taking them. Hopefully, the car is still in the family ?

    Dear Gentleman Comrade RufMD,

But what about information on the facking doodah's that Al70 is so desperate trying to glean. I am taking full credit for identifying the components as doodah's but why are some doodah's bent and yet on other F-40's they are straight? Joe Sackey has gone into prevarication mode so for gawds sake here at last is your opportunity to gain some Brownie Points.

    With kind regards,

Caley, thank you for this helpful info.

Graham, thanks also. A chat with a Ferrari vendor (garage) today was less than productive when he became quite agitated over my desire to clarify some points on its murky history. I can see this is going to be an arduous task, which may involve some amount of expletives.
