Im considering buying a house/ cabin, lakefront, somewhere in PA. Something to use for getaways. not a trailer but a cabin/house. I m looking to possibly be near ski resorts but also to use in the summer. Something picturous and friendly. Any PA folks with any ideas ?
I know Im a cheap SOB, I take after PeterS, but not looking to spend a gazillion bucks.

I know it isn't PA, but Deep Creek Lake in Western, MD might be a good place to look.

my family had a cabin in PA for years on the Susquehanna but we sold it because we realized how much work went into cleaning repairing and maintainting the place over the years . we now prefer to vacation where ever when ever we want ,not cleanup , and it actually costs less ! lol

    John,
Look in the Poconos. It's not too expensive there.

The Poconos are getting very built up and the prices aren't as cheap as they use to be (still cheaper than NJ though). You could look around Jack Frost off of Rt. 115 going towards Wilkes-Barre. The prices should be cheaper out that way plus you would be close to Jack Frost/Big Boulder ski resort. If you want a townhouse, you can look at Camelback but that usually gets pretty packed during the winter. If you want to come up, I would be willing to give you a tour around the area so that you could find an area that you would like. Do you want to build or buy used?

    Hope this helps.

LOL!!!!! That is ok... Up here most people are losing their teeth so we should have an over abundance of toothpaste. I'm a transplant from NJ so I also have to purchase the toothpaste... :)

Poconos West is still a bargain. I bought 14 acres and a 3500 square ft home with a brand new Barn and a pond adjacent to State game lands in 2000. Paid 245K now appraised at 400K. My friend just bought 15 acres and a nice 3 bedroom home without a Pond and just paid 385K. A real Bargain and 30 mins from three ski resorts. Nice thing about these areas is its a three season vacation. Spring is not worth the effort though. jon in delaware

Yes, now that Bartonsville Truck Stop is being turned into a strip mall. Truckers will need another place to stop. Eventhough they are not near each other, they will need to go somewhere.
