Hi Guys and Girls, The recent post regarding the Nissan GTR has prompted me to get a feel as as which of these two cars would be preferred by Ferrari enthusiasts/owners. My 1980 VC HDT Brock Commodore sold last Sunday at the Shannons Motor Show Auctions which now puts me into the position of seriously considering either one of these cars. My background is very much Australia Muscle so the HSV is certainly my preference but I'm willing to have an open mind. The price, condition, mileage, colour etc would all be very similar. Your feedback would be appreciated. Cheers, Bob. In all honesty Bob, you were probably better off keeping the HDT! Having driven both cars, I can say they are both fun to drive. Both cars are different animals. You can spend less dollars to make the GTR go faster than the HSV, but your call as to what you really want to do with these cars. Track days? Leave them stocko? I dont know your intentions mate? I am not really into either car, so I cant really tell you which car I would prefer to own mate.
Don't buy the Commonwhore... neither are my cup of tea.. but if I was forced to choose one.. it would be the first.
ya go for the nissan the handling is more predictable ....but then again you might be a big drift man .........then go for the bombadore.............with a few minor tweeks...the nissan can put power figures that shame the gto and i mean just basic ones not going fullbore...
Treat yourself to a holiday you'll never forget! Rather than either, thats my suggestion. Then get the bus everywhere!
The VC that sold last week was a roughy which allowed me to savor my first one which was a glamour. The sale of that one was what allowed me to get my 328 a couple of months ago. I prefer stock cars so 11 second GTR's don't really interest me. For around $60K both fit the bill quite nicely. The cars would be mainly used for Sunday drives and club events as I'm very active within the Australian Muscle car fraternity. Obviously the GTR is at odds there but it does carry world recognition as a supercar in the true sense and I do like their looks. My daily is a VZ Commo wagon so as you can imagine having a 328 GTS and one of these other cars would certainly make the weekends not come fast enough. What else you you guys consider in that price point as a viable option? Must seat at least 4 and be a manual. Thanks, Bob.
If you want to win tarmac rallies, then get the skyline. The president of the skyline club of Victoria won Dutton rally this year with his 34GTR. It has only bolt on mods and a changed chip. It makes 330kwatw. Btw, the turbos are stock. I'm not really a fan of the Holden, it will go through alot of fuel (but you probably don't care) and just doesn't share the same level of sophistication that the skyline has. IMO the skyline is the true drivers car. But it's up to you..
out of the price range....they're worth mega bucks now, i believe. there's one advertised for $120k. cheap buying at that, i reckon
I drove an R33 GT-R to first place in class in co-driver championship in inaugural Duttons NSW.. if you wanted to actually DRIVE under all circumstances the GTR is the pic by far out of those two! If on the other hand you find lots of V8 noise addictive and tyre smoking *IS* a major crowd pleaser (just not a good time setter) at such events too.. lol Bit of a tough choice really.. both have something different going for them for sure.
With the utmost respect, I don't understand where that pricing comes from. This one only just made reserve and SOLD for $48,000. I was half keen but it really doesn't suite the purpose I want it for. http://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/lot/?id=OC4EDN5C2FN3B467 Cheers, Bob.
it was an in joke btw...would YOU buy a car from an auction? i wouldn't anyway.....don't worry about it.
Depends on the auction. The Shannons one has a substantial VIP report that goes with each car. You simply make an allowance for incidentals. If I knew exactly what I was looking at I'd buy for sure, and have on one occasion. Cheers, Bob.
fair enough. maybe i would if the circumstances were right. actually, i think you can get a full PPI done on the cars at shannons, can't you? if that's the case, then no problems, i guess. i'd have been very happy with that price if i were the owner of that car.
awful resale, drinks like a fish and the torqueless 9k revving engine isnt to everyones taste. Also the fully sick/ricer brigade are starting to get their hands on them second hand thus there goes its image. for $50-60k my opinion would be on a near new lotus elise, or if you can stretch it a bit then $69k brand new. Otherwise ive seen a few porsche 993's (94-97 911) starting to hit the low $60s. Though they would not be the cleanest or best examples of that model in that price bracket http://www.drive.com.au/used-cars/PORSCHE/911/Sydney/detail.aspx?id=3834589&pg=1&pp=0&d=0&nv=1&SG=-2140015716 otherwise if reliability is your thing then theres always the Hondahh NSX, which there are a few early 90s models advertised in the price bracket your looking at. Edit: i just realised you were after a 4 seat..... dohhhhh! perhaps a second hand audi S4, i quite like them in the wagon, otherwise theres always a ferrari 400i
oh my god! this is a no brainer! one is a Jap weapon with every conceiveable bit of turbo and electronic trickery...with enough features and functions to keep you busy for a lifetime the other is a clubsport with 2 doors missing. hehe, to be fair, the GTO makes a great highway cruiser and they eat the miles with ease. I drove one to woomera last year and it was a blast. Reckon the GTR would have gotten old after 14 hours, what with the firmer ride and very huggy seats. the 34 GTRs are really starting to be an attractive buy as they get a couple yrs older and prices drop...doesnt seem that long ago a clean 34 was a 100k + proposition as an all rounder, you cant go wrong with the GTR. cheap thrills, immensely capable, and a hefty power hike is only a few k away.
I couldn't have said that better Aidan. I remember when there were two R34's back when the Geelong speed trials were running. Think 2002, 2003. One of them had been modified by AVO. God knows how much it would have been worth then. Seriously though R34 skylines are very nice
