Heritage Certificate Ripoff .....shame on Ferrari

700 bucks? That's today, it'll be more if the $ stays in freefall. No thanks!

 

Wow. $700 for just the HC now.

I got the HC and Buildsheets for my old 330 2+2 in April 2003, no charge for either.

Checked the Owners Site; can't even find where to go for the HC anymore...used to be easy.

 

Luckily i got mine last month, No charge. I wonder if due to this site and the recent chat about the certificates that they had what they saw as unprecedented demand, and Ferrari being Ferrari saw another money squeezing opportunity......... The greedy B#*t#*ds!!

It's the clubs and owner organizations that hold the cards in regard to setting standards for vintage events and judging; these have evolved of their own accord over many years, without formal executive-level ties to Ferrari.

With exploding success of their brand, Ferrari sees an untapped area and wants to muscle in on some action.

It's up to the membership and governance of owner organizations to reject the Classiche program at the current outrageous pricing levels. If they don't, play along with Ferrari, and incorporate the current Classiche program as a standard, vintage Ferrari ownership and related events will become truly haves-and-have-nots, class-stratified situations.

IMO, anyone who has the balls and determination to make a vintage purchase and preserve and improve a piece of Ferrari history at their own expense deserves the support of the factory, not to be stiffed by them. These owners are doing Ferrari a huge favor by preserving the single most important spiritual asset Ferrari has...a history and tradition that is untouchable.

A $2 mil. vintage purchase is as much of a big decision to a multimillionaire as a $100K one is to a person of more modest means, and those at both ends need to be united. Yes, Ferrari has a right to cover their expenses and make a reasonable profit, but across-the-board strongarming of vintage owners is not the way to go.

Screw the Heritage Certificate on my next car...I'll print up my own version.

 

As with most debates, there are two sides to this story. The process of certifying that an expensive vintage Ferrari is, in fact, original, is not an easy task. When one wishes to sell or purchase an expensive example, it is important to represent its originality (or not). There are many rebody's, and there are many put together with various spare parts, either by the factory or by privateer's who raced during the 50s, 60s, and later. It is not unheard of to have two rare Ferrari's carrying the same chassis number. Which is the original?

Ferrari now has a program (Certification) that costs approximately $4000 that will examine your car and certify its heritage. It requires that you take the car to an authorized dealer. The dealer examines and photographs all aspects of the car, including engine number, transmission case number, build numbers, etc. They document interior, color, etc., and then send these data on to the factory.

This is the only "authorized" approach to stating that your car is original, and that there are no other such models with the same chassis number. If I were to invest significant money into a car, I would want this Heritage Certification.

Agree with you there, and the full Classiche should be available, but not at the expense of making less-costly options available to those owners who don't want or need the full Classiche route, yet would like some acknowledgement from Ferrari that their car is original.

The former Buildsheets + Heritage Certificate program would be fine for that purpose, even if Ferrari were to charge a reasonable fee for such a package, like the $500 I suggested in an earlier post.

I don't like the idea of full Classiche certification trickling in and gradually becoming a ground-level requirement for events that are not directly sponsored by Ferrari. Like an original clock tag or original windowsticker...nice to have but not a disqualification or point-deducter if you don't have it.

 

there is a difference between the heritage cert and the original colors cert. obviously, money is the issue. i regret when the ferrari site first started up, that i didn't print out what i verified. before i bought my dino, i typed in the serial number. the ferrari site then came back with the original colors, the original numbers (for engine, etc) and the options that the car was built with. that is how i was able to "verify" my cars had chairs from the factory and not some addition later. i kick myself for not having printed it out, but i figured it would always be available.

the current program is great, but the cost is ridiculous. i can't understand why ferrari thinks $5k for a dino verification is reasonable.

 

You can use the .PDF from any who have it and change it to enter your special car in there.

 

Heritage Certificate does cost 200,- Euros in Germany, shoundn`t cost more in the States or your dealer tries to participate

 

You are aware you can add your VIN to My Garage, as some have done?

They will talk to you, thru that feature.........

Sorry Greg, it doesnt work for the Ferrari Dinos. Tried a couple of time and was told the Dinos are not online !

 

I guess we don't have "real" Ferraris! ;-)

FYI, I wrote to the factory when I bought my car in 1996 and they sent me a letter with the color and production dates for my car. It was just a single page on Ferrari letterhead and I keep it with the car. Those were the days - when documents were free and parts were available.

You can't get a "Heritage Certificate" through the online/email process anymore from the Factory, whether free or for $$s. They used to offer it - you would send them photographic proof of several stampings; telaio plate, chassis stamping, engine # stamping, gearbox stamping and differential stamping (or transaxle depending on what you have). The Heritage Certificate would merely confirm for you that the numbers you sent were in agreement with the factory's Assembly Data Sheet information for your car. They stopped issuing these Certificates sometime last year, I believe. To get such a confirmation now, you will have to pay for a Classiche "authentication" (this also assumes that the Factory still has your original ADSs - many are lost). There are at least two threads on this (also see the latest Ferrari Markiet Letter lead article) in Vintage. The Certificate of Original Color does not cover the same territory as the old Heritage Certificate. This certificate (free, for the moment) tells you the original exterior/interior colors as well as the build date for your car.

 

That's the information they would plug in to cars in My Garage also...they confirmed a color change on my latest and oldest 308GTB......

 

this comes up if you try to get Certificate of Original Colour for a Dino:
"We regret to inform you that this Vehicle colours certificate is not available. In a few isolated instances it may not be possible to check all the relevant information, and in such cases Ferrari is unable to provide the certificate. If you need further information please do not hesitate to contact us, clicking on the @ symbol positioned on the grey navigation toolbar on the right of the page."

Is the heritage certificate the same as what you get today with the classiche certification? ie, same document?
