Hi, many thanks for the post about where to go in NYC, Just wanted to know where not to go in NYC, Taking the trains after 10pm, its not safe.. i heard .. any streets that I shld be vary of? Care to share for a tourist wondering on foot
I don't know, I'm not going until the 15th, but I'm kind of afraid to take my bag on the train with me...People will know I'm a tourist.
haha.. well. i would be flying in from san fran on the 4th of december.. so I guess you can let me know where not to go. No bags on the train?hee... well.. i dont think the would mug tourist .. would they? Is it your first time in NYC?
C'mon, tourists are easy targets...they don't know WTF they're going... It's my second time, but the first was only a day trip from Philly. This time I will be flying into LaGuardia, taking a cab to the train, and the train to Brooklyn... yikes!
HAHA!! It is really NOOOTTTTT that bad as you guys make it seem. In fact, it is not bad at all. Just don't hit above 125st in Manhattan late night (you have no reason to do that anyway).... amazing the stereotype nyc still has.
Subways aren't that bad as long as you're still in Manhattan and not in the projects, I would take it at 2-3am if I had to go somewhere within the city...
Throw your stuff in a school bag or a messenger bag, I keep a messenger bag with me everyday on the way to work, so do most people, I usually have a magazine or a book in there...
STEPHANIE.....just wear a black belt around your waist (the karate one)...and no one will even think about it.
I'm actually using a big gym bag. I hate conventional luggage! People will know I'm a tourist, I'll probably be dressed inappropriately. I can always spot tourists here. LMAO! I'll just hit the mugger with one of the little furry pom pons on my jacket! I'm gonna look like Tinkerbell in a snow storm...just wait.
If you're close to this...and have attitude...you'll fit right in!!! (minus the cigarettes...that's stupid). lol jkkk... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dude, you throwing that party? I seriously need to be hanging out with you! Places not to go in NYC: Anywhere John ain't at, cause all the gorgeous girls are out with him...
My friend told me to just take the train, but I might actually take the cab the whole way. I think it's about $40, which is quite a bit, but maybe it would be worth it.
ohh nooo...i think she did lol ok, no more hijacking. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
if you are not alone late at night...you'll feel comfortable on the train....seriously- it is usually pretty busy.
I don't feel comfortable taking public transportation at all. Oh well, I'll have to do it by myself when I go to meet my brother in the city on Friday and meet you all on Sunday, so I need to get used to it!
the subway during the day and upto midnite is safe almost everywhere.just use your head and don't go north of 96 street or brooklyn late ar night.if you plan to stay around mid-town or soho area you have nothing to worry aboutuntil 2-3 am.
I agree with both of these guys. I use to play basketball along 125th so I am comfortable, but I still would not condone going there at night. Realistically, there is no reason to go past Central Park.
Stephanie, New York is the safest city among the large cities in the USA and Europe. I can not believe the stereotyping. I live in Manhattan and never heard of anything happening to anybody and that includes all the tourists. There are thousands of them on the streets of NYC enjoying the City without any fear every day. What is this discussion all about???
Ditto on what lots of the locals have said -- the whole "NY is unsafe" thing is a relic of the 80's. To recap: Basically anything below 125th on the West Side is totally 100% cool. Columbia University has that "zone of protection" around it. On the east side, things get a bit rougher above 96th St. But subways in Manhattan are 100% safe 24 hours a day. When you get into the far-reaches of the boroughs (way up on the 4/5/6 or way out in Brooklyn/Queens), late at night they can be a bit rougher. But basically subway crime is way, way down from the Bernie Goetz era. And Central Park itself is beautiful at night (below 96th again) -- we used to hang out in the Meadow at all hours of the night in high school, and we never so much as got looked at in the wrong way. nlh
You should know that this is how Noah looked in his late teen years hanging in central park Image Unavailable, Please Login
