Whoa happening! Famed Formula One Chief and billionaire Bernie Ecclestone auctioned off his Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster in London yesterday for a whopping £3.9million ($8.1million). It was one of over 40 cars that went up for sale, contributing to a combined value of £15million. After a lengthy 15 minutes of bidding, the car was sold to an unnamed buyer seated at the front of the room. With a top estimate of £4million pounds, the bid fell just short, but remains one of the highest successful bids ever made for a car on auction. The Mercedes-Benz 540K was a limited-edition supercharged roadster produced in 1936, just before World War II. In its day the 540K was valued at ten times the price of an average Ford.
