An observation that I have made: I have met a lot of 348 owners that aspire to become 355 owners, but I have yet to meet a 355 owner that aspires to become a 348 owner. I've even met a few 360 owners that aspire to become 355 owners again. I've also seen quite a few 348s being modified to look and perform more like 355s. Funny how that works. Now, everyone don their nomex fire suits because I imagine that I've probablly just started a fire. As a card carrying member of the 355 crowd, I couldn't be happier with my choice, but to each his own.

8 posts! and he's "stirring the pot" already!

Nice looking car! (but it would have been cooler with grates on the doors!)

Here's the thing, 355's are awesome, 348's are awesome, some people even like those lambo thingies. Each to their own, if the people you speak of already own a 348 and aspire to own a 355, good for them, if they own a 360 and want to step into a 355, only one thing is stopping them.

I aspired to own a 355, this was my dream first Ferrari, my dream now is to use this car every possible second i have spare, one day i will fall in love with another model Ferrari that i can afford, and i will make the move.

The world is a great place because we have night and day, sun and rain, Ferrari's and all the others. If we all wanted 355's the world would be boring.

Long live the 348 and 355's i say!

(lets not start a thread about which model is better, there both bloody awesome machines!)

    My .02c

P.S. LOVE the 355 Berlinetta in yellow!

I would love to one day soon own a 308 QV. I'd take it over a Z06 or a Murcielago or a Veyron or even a 599. The QV has something many other cars succeeding it just don't possess. While I think they're a tad too similar to jump backwards in ownership, if someone did want to go from a 355 to a 348, I could definitely understand why.

Be careful there, you'll be jumped by the 348 brotherhood and may get beaten like a bronze valve guide :D

Awesome car - best choice of body style and color (but I'm biased!)

    Cheers

Love 'em both but probably going with a 348 for now -- maybe 355 down the road. We have a performance car already (996 turbo) so the 348 will suit my needs for a Ferrari. They both have their attributes...

What makes you think 348 owners couldn't have a 355 if they really wanted one? "Aspire" I may "aspire" to own an F40, or an Enzo, but not another $60 - $90 Ferrari. Nice car BTW.

Matt, great analysis on the "aspire" part. You're absolutely right. Most 348 owners could have gone for a 355 instead. The main reason they did not (in my observation) and judging from posts that we've seen from guys that are in the process of choosing between the 355 and the 348 was questions regarding maintainance between the two cars. The answers to the maintainance questions usually steers buyers towards the 348 ( I am an example ). I still say that the 355 is the most stunning Ferrari with its looks and sound. Currently, I am ready to upgrade and I was eyeing the 360 until Gothspeed sent me some videos of the 355 (that I have never seen), and thanks to him I am now looking for a well sorted 355 TB.

    For the price I paid for my 348, I could've had a 355.

Obviously I didn't "perspire" to own one - Ha!

Based on the picture, looks like you had to put your house up for sale to buy the 355! ;)

All I need is a 355, no going "up" or "down" market for me. We'll except maybe for a 360 CS :D

BTW, are those carbon sport seats in your car?!!

    1+ a 360 CS or the new 430 Scuderia.

I had an opportunity to buy a 348 CH. The previous owner had traded it for a 355 and he is back to a 348 SS. I will not be trading "up" to a 355.

Where is this thread going? Are you somehow a better person because you bought a 355 instead of a 348? Who's observatin is it other than your opinion? Do you have data?

I'm not trying to start a fire, just wondering where you came up with this.

Most Fcar owners progress down the chain ... i.e. buy the best "starter" Ferrari they can afford at the time - say a 308 or whatever - and trade it for a newer model as they can afford it. For the few people that go from 360s to 355s there are hundreds more that go the other way. Check out the profiles of most of the 360 owners today and you will see the transition.

Personally, my next car is likely to be the CS but that will be several years down the line while I let the severely ruptured piggie bank mend itself. :) So I have many years of enjoying the 348 out in the future. :) I don't see a big benefit in upgrading to a 355. Maybe if I was in a 308/328 I could have contemplated it.

Very well put. Hey, goth, can I borrow a few of your old guides for a minute? :)

I had a choice between a 355 and 348. I like the 355 alot, but the 348 SS is really much more interesting to me. There are no such cars in the 355 line up. A 348 is a whole lot easier to hot rod and much less complicated to work on. It's about the best blend of recent Ferrari tech and old school. You can tune it to do everything the 355 can, plus it requires upper body strength to turn the unboosted steering wheel and no hair gel. Plus u get the incredible brain trust of the 348 Brotherhood!

Bottom line for me was if a 348 SS never came available, then I would have a 1995 355 now along with the requisite hair grease.

You need to meet a few more 348 owners..............

Most 348 owners I know are not interested in a 355, myself included.

I own a 348, and I have to say the 355 is much more of a car.
    I've driven them.
I actually like the 348, I don't know where people get off giving it
    a bad rap.
I like it more than the 328 I owned.....

I had a 348 SS as my first F car.

Never really aspired to get a 355. However, I still love the 355 very much too.

    Then I added a 456.

    Then replaced the 348SS with a 430.

Now as I look back, I still want a 348. It calls to me still. This time it will be in a TS flavor.

And to think, I did all of this shuffle in 1.5 years and now I'm back to where I started -- loook for another 348!

    As tempting as that sounds......uhhhh.....no.

Maybe it's just that 'First Ferrari' thing... but I think I'll stick with what I've got....
