Agreed. A piss poor marketing attempt. And to try and charge that kind of price is insulting to its customers.
Really??? What else does your magic crystal ball tell you??? So far Top Gear and Motor Trend are the only people who have seen and tested the car and have had nothing but good things to say about it, but I guess their opinions don't matter cause they can't tell the future like some of you guys can.
Why are they selected to "test" a car? Magazines are paid for favorable reviews. The car isn't significantly different than the Murcielago with an "appearance package".
Give the Reventon a break. After the hacks-for-hire have reviewed it, at least we know it has 10 (yes, thats ten) more horsepower with the same tech spec as the LP640. And that ought to be worth the extra $1,000,000 (yes, thats a million)? As for the bodywork, how much would it cost to put it back to standard LP640 d'you think? Joe www.joesackey.com
as ive made abundantly clear im not a fan of this "new" car however i would say the statement ive quoted is a little harsh. im sure the Reventon will deliver - my problem is that it wont deliver anything more than any other Murcielago the problem is this isnt a new car - its an existing one thats had a bodykit fitted to it. and then the price upped by a factor of 4
I saw the car on display in Frankfurt on the International Car Show! TOP GEAR first intention is ...good entertainment! Their "tests" are more a mixture of Duffy Duck and up n`down the hill! Did they drive it there? No! Also, the car was tested 3 weeks ago by two major German auto-magazines (yesssss, there are also other media around on this planet than those 2 you mentioned!). I had dinner 3 days ago with one of their journalists/test-drivers who drove the car. He was not impressed and confirmed that the Reventon has everything what the 640 can deliver - but nothing more that can explain the 1.0 million tag. Sooo, Ragin Bull ...did you drive the car? And if so, what can you offer then to us..., eh? Ciao! Walter
These are the kind I also despise, really. The latest car I remember that got the "treatment" from these people is the W221 S-Klasse. Anyway, getting back on the Reventón, I think it's design is the real definition of a Lamborghini, although its a shame that it's innards are nothing to write home about.
Did I mention that??? There are some more test-drivers in Germany. Tim Schrick drove a Murcielago and a Gallardo a while ago and and liked it very much. He is one of the guys who really can drive. But he is not a TEST-driver in the real sence of the word when it comes to timings, settings, etc.! Best test-drivers (as journalists) are coming from Stuttgart (SPORT AUTO and AUTO, MOTOR and SPORT). SPORT AUTO do always 2 test-sessions on 2 different circuits (Hockenheim and Nuerburgring/old circuit!). They not only meassure the g-forces they also go to the wind tunnel and check the downforces of each car!). The test-sessions of AUTO, MOTOR and SPORT (AMS) are scheduled for 3 to 4 days each! AMS alone has 6 test-drivers and is the biggest car magazine in Europe! Its interesting what those drivers tell you "off-line". A very intersting note came from this person I had dinner with: he mentioned that Lamborghini has no other choice than increasing the power output of their engines to get better performances as long as they stay with the 4WD! And this is clearly the wrong way. Their cars are too heavy. He drove the Gallardo Superleggera and liked it but found it not sooooo superior to the standart version. But the new Ferrari "Scuderia" is a much more active car. He also told me that he drove a RWD-Gallardo-prototype in Italy and that was a real gunner! It seems that it doesn`t come on the market for whatever reasons. Ciao! Walter
Correct, the F430 feels much lighter, the reason why Lambo is only selling 4wd is: AUDI. Their philosophy is 4wd, they think a car with 500bhp is too difficult to handle... What a joke, my QV has as well against 500bhp, the diablo had even more (530bhp the 1999 SV). With all the nowadays electronic gimmicks it's no problem to make a rwd car drivable for everyone, otherwise not so many F360 and F430 would drive around...
I think you guys are missing the big picture. Its is not horsepower or a different engine that is attracting the buyers. It is exclusivity. It is like buying a prototype. Why does a 1:18 scale Maisto Diablo cost $18 and a 1:18 scale AutoArt Diablo cost $80? No one is forcing anyone to buy one...
OK - I would accept 300-400k $$ om top of the regular price for a Mourcielago ------but over 1.0 M Euros only for 10 more hp and the body???? Ciao! Walter
I agree but they are not going to recall the cars and give people their money back because of what you and I think. Complaining about it is not going to change a thing.
Hmmm, I dont know. Lets see how this unfolds and what public opinion within the supercar community brings to bear. Thus far the paid hacks have naturally been complimentary and quite polite. That wont last forever.... Exclusivity only has exceptional value if the item is universally accepted as ultra-desireable. Not the case here Im afraid. There are multiple orders confirmed as cancelled and I have been offered those very cars to broker at a LOSS to the principal who placed the order!! Alas, I regret to state that I have been unable to assist in any way... Joe www.joesackey.com
I think in this instance he is stark naked and running down the high street chased by a herd of raging bulls with pointy horns... Joe www.joesackey.com
