    My mom is looking at 7 seat crossover/suv's. Not interested in towing, we are looking for something that will get up to the ski hills and tackle snowy roads without issues. We looked at the MDX, XC90, Enclave, Q7, SRX, RX (doesnt have 7 seats obviously) We came to the X5, it looked really impressive at the dealer but we have never owned a BMW before. We went and looked at the dealer this weekend, and were really impressed. Its pretty good looking, rides really well, the third row of seats is pretty useable for a 'midsize' SUV. Anyone on F-Chat own a 2007 BMW X5 3.0si or 4.8i? or even the last generation X5 (experiances are relevent). How is it?

    Is it reliable?
    built properly?
    any real problems?
    how is the gas mileage?

    Thanks F-Chat.

    The X5's have been pretty good with reliability up here but most people who buy one go through brakes like no tomorrow because they use the same stopping distance as their previous car and this thing is heavy. The mileage is somewhat poor from my point of view but I drove it like a race car and didn't put too many highway miles on it, so my mileage was horrible. I had the 4.4 and a friend had the 4.8 and he went through even more gas. BTW The 3.0 isn't much cheaper on gas unless you are very easy with the gas pedal. I truly believe the X5 is too heavy for the 3.0 to push it around, it seems to always work over time {more fuel} and the 4.4 seemed to be relaxed all the time. In the snow it was great and in the dry racing around corners it's very "safe" when it comes to body roll. You can really feel it lean but never did I think I was even close to lifting a wheel. Also they're "over built", they have a very strong, heavey duty suspension. {I haven't driven the 2007 model yet}
