Have not been stopped in 20 yrs, also have had NO tickets.

Cop stops me, and tells me both my brake lights are dead, I just replied, sorry, I did not know, but I will fix them immediately. Cop then asks me for ins card, reg, and driv lic, , so I get all but when look into my wallet, I coudnt find my lic. I was shocked, as I always have it, maybe I left it at work, when I had to verify some VISA stuff with a business invoice or something, so I had a perplexed look .

The cop , being used to smart alecs, sarcastically says something like"maybe you left it at the bar late last night, huh?" implying Id be the type. So, I innocently, not picking up his sarcasm imediately said "no, maybe left it at work".

He goes back to his car, to check me out on computer, then comes back, finding out I was SQUEAKY CLEAN. Says "just fix your lights, no points, just $7.00 for a fee, and go to any cop to have it signed. I said "any cop"? He said yeah, anywhere you see one. I said "like a donut shop or something?"

I know....shoula, woulda, coulda, but it would have been appropriate, since he associated me, unshaven for 3 days, in an old sunbird, as a bar frequenter.

If you ever see a cop in Starbucks (Or ANY coffee shop), make sure you buy them a cup.

    1) It's a good thing to do that thanks the for their work. Try to remember their badge name (See #2).
    2) If a cop you popped for a latte for pulls you over, you will probably get off (Unless you are drunk)...Maybe that just works in my small town.

They are always in coffee shops here. The shops all give free coffee to cops.

    Update....

Fellow chatters, I, like a good boy, went to auto store and spent $7 on bulbs, (funny, the sheriff's fee was also $7.00) put them in, and still no brake lights.....Darn. Ordered a brake switch (only $7.00) (what is it with everything being only $7) . Will keep you all informed, as I know you are on pins and needles, making this the absolute most exciting thread on F chat right now..........

On the police boards this subject comes up from time to time. It seems they feel the people who have those only have them to try and get out of tickets so some of the officers are actually tougher on people with them.

Actually it's the exact opposite. For narcotics profiling you're more likely to get pulled over if you have one of those stickers on your vehicle. They trust nobody. Kind of a reverse psychology if you will.

Did you check your fuses? Most likely a fuse when all the brake lights stop working at once.

    GOT IT!!!

Well, the brake switch was not the culprit. Oh well, it was only $7...LOL! Shoulda actually started to do voltage checks, but I figured for $7, easier to pop in a new switch. STUPID.

Sooooooo, I did voltage checks, using my manual's elec schematic. Pretty cool. All of a sudden, found the culprit. A large quick connect clip (harness) was loose!!!!

That did it, and I was glad, after driving by the Sheriffs Dept on my way to work for a week! Fortunately, Dunkin Donuts is a block away, and they are mostly there at 7AM...LOL! (kiddin) Going there Monday, maybe at 7:30, to have a cop sign, and pay him $7.

    Thanks for comments, people.

Funny....but , maybe my car doesnt need a resto, cuz, it is in GREAT condit. Rarest GT sunbird you will ever see anymore. 2 tone red/blk, paint still has a shine, almost 150,000m. 29mgp. Still, nothing really to brag about. Just since you mentioned resto.......
