If Michael rejoined Ferrari, who would be kicked out? Where would they go? Mclaren?

While I don't think he's coming back, it would be Massa who would go back to a test driver or another team.

His experience in driving formula cars without traction control and aids is part of the reason for him testing -> technical experience.

I'd like to see him back in sportscars - another run at Le Mans would be great - this time in a Ferrari not a MB.

...he´s not coming back...but his input in race trim and no traction control cars is technically invaluable, is been a long time ago since he drove with no traction control, but he´s got one hell of a special feeling for those on-the-edge conditions.

Is great to see him test the car, and help with general set up... and most of all...driving a Ferrari.

I agree I don't see him getting back into F1 racing, but I think it would be nice to see him back in LM and in a Ferrari.

Since Guiseppe uses Ferrari Factory Drivers in #62 and there's a third driver at LM and #62 definitely has the invite, what a third driver to partner Mika Salo and Jaime Melo ! ! !

    talk about wishful thinking

Michael's testing was quoted on Autosport: "It's half for pleasure, half for technical reasons,"

What are they going to test actually?

Does that mean the ECU is already available to the teams and now fitted with the Ferrari F1?

You mean the Microsoft/McLaren one? Oh sure, its ready, but they have had to find room on the streering wheel for the Control, Alt and Delete buttons. Reboot times will be as important as good pitwork next year!

Hamilton did a real life test of the reboot sequence during the Brazilian GP.

Yeah, I guess if you dont speak Italian it would make it a little difficult to reboot the McLaren with bootlegged software :)

He's not coming back to actively race. He is helping his old friends prepare for 2008. But mostly his wife gave him permission to do a few test runs.

Man I wish Ferrari would take on Audi and Peugeot in LMP1, with Schumi behind the wheel. Call out Ford and Shelby for a re-match. Beat them and shut their mouths about the few times they beat Ferrari. That's like the highlight of Ford's motorsport history. Ok, I'm dreaming here... *sigh*

He's not getting back into an F1 full time, doesn't mean I don't want to see pics and times from the tests :)

I'm on board with those of you that would like to see him at LeMans and want to see Ferrari join in at the LMP level. At the very least it would be cool to watch Schumi lap in one of the F430GT's for part of the 24 hours.

I totally agree with the LMP opinions. A prototype Ferrari would really make me fall in love with ALMS even more than I am now!

Does anyone know if other teams will be present at this test?

I'm not hopeful for fast times, even from the maestro himself. Remember Mika was 2 seconds off the slowest time last winter in his little "test". Inevitably they'll compare whatever Michael's times are to the others.

Frankly, unless Ferrari really know something us armchair F1 experts don't; I'd rather see them do this test at Paul Ricard. Alone. No one can make heads or tails of the Paul Ricard times because the track has something like 15 configurations.

I also find it a bit ironic that none of the young pups have any experience in cars without TC.... Not ours, not Alonso, not Hami... Jeez, it goes back to the last young hotshot in 2000 before TC was allowed....

Remember when Jense was the young gun? Wow.

In any event, I'd say Michael will give Ferrari a significant advantage in this major, major rule change.

The Hammaminator was driving in GP2 without TC just last year.

Exactly. It is nonsense to say they have no idea about a world without driving aids. They weren't born as F1 drivers, they all worked their way up to the top and I'm sure they have driven powerful cars without TC outside of F1.

Both Lauda and Alesi have questioned MS testing the 2007 F1 in Barcellona.
What happens if MS is faster then the 2 F drivers? It could create chaos...but Alesi thinks it is only a publicity stunt for the benefit of Marlboro.
