Fernando Alonso could team up with former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn to form a 'super team' at Red Bull Racing next year.

That's the suggestion of "informed sources", according to the British newspaper The Guardian.

Following Alonso's departure from McLaren on Friday, there has been no shortage of speculation as to where the two-time world champion might end up in 2008.

While Red Bull Racing are considered long shots, the combination of Alonso and Brawn together with designer Adrian Newey could be just the tonic that billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz is looking for to push his team into the realm of championship contenders.

Brawn has worked this type of magic before, first with Michael Schumacher at Benetton, and later at Ferrari.

Brawn is currently on sabbatical from Ferrari and has stated in the past that if he does come back to the sport, then the Scuderia would be his only choice. However, it's believed the only role he would consider with the Scuderia is the one currently held by team boss Jean Todt.

David Coulthard and Mark Webber are already under contract to Red Bull Racing for 2008 but that won't stop Mateschitz from paying another team to take one of his drivers on loan in order to bring Alonso and Brawn into the fold.

Webber, who is managed by Flavio Briatore, could find himself at Renault or Coulthard, who is the oldest driver in the series, could find his way out.

"We haven't heard a word," the Scot's management team tells The Guardian. "The team has an obligation to enter David in next year's championship and, if they are moving for Fernando, I'd like to think we would know."

...I still have faith Jean will step down from Gestione Sportiva and will assume the full CEO of Ferrari S.p.A...so Ross can take over the F1 team...

Damn that will be a perfect match for this season, but to tell you the truth Im starting to worry Ross will go somewhere else...

Wasn't Brawn with Schummy at Benetton/Renault? Brawn and FA at Renault would REALLY make for an interesting year.......if they have the car.

I know, the wait is agonizing. We will all have to wait until X'mas to find out for sure what will happen to Ferrari, unless Brawn makes an announcement to go elsewhere first.

Ross was a part of the McLaren Spying/Lying/Cheating hearings on Ferrari's behalf. He's really tied to Ferrari.
