I got to thinking... the rubber hoses in an engine compartment get subjected to tons of heat/wear/UV light over 13 years. If you plan on driving the car like it was meant to be driven, something that old might burst under high load.

If I go through & replace all the hoses... will this decrease the car's value?

Hopefully this isn't a taboo desire of mine.

I think it will decrease the car's value if you DON'T replace the hoses!

I replaced all of my power steering hoses and coolant hoses durning my 30K engine out. A small price to pay instead of having to go back in there. In fact, we had a company that makes hydraulic hoses make the long ps hose that lies under the coolant box, instead of getting factory. Even more comical is that one of the coolant hoses I replaced was factory and split 2000 miles later.

Concours guidelines assume replacement of items that wear out/deteriorate. What you don't want to do is change the appearance -- i.e., replace with a similar hose color/type.

Yes I did the same thing as well recently on an engine out.

In particualr there was a leak from the PS hose but could not be seen under the covers so lucky I got it before it burst.

More importantly, when I started replacing hoses that looked old and deterioted I made the decision to replace EVERY single hose.

Some I replaced with genuine Ferrari and others I was able to match from a Motor sport place that specialise in hoses for racing cars.

    What did I achieve???

Every single hose brand new and peace of mind now when driving. It is like a new engine!!

Thanks for the responses. It seems like common sense to replace such items, but I once owned a marque where replacement of ANYTHING was a sin (there's a reason I got outa that group!).
I'm having a difficult time finding the braided hoses. They look to be braided with cotton strands? The local stores don't carry this "look", only black smooth rubber :(

Change them for silicon silicon hoses and it should'nt affect the cars value unless the person who's buying it is going to enter it into a concours.

I had a set custom made for the 348 that Ricambi is now selling.

Check with your local BMW or MB independent. We have the braided cloth hose in stock, I would assume your local guys do also or can get it for you.
