By the way, when was the last time we saw a posting about someone's timing belt breaking? I just doesn't seem to happen all that often. But, on the other hand, when was the last time we saw a posting about someone's 308 burning to the ground? We've had a few recently, and it's not rare. Why isn't as much attention paid to changing fuel lines and improving fire safety in these cars as this nonsense debate over belt service intervals?

Or people that believe in relatively cheap insurance, peace of mind and don't waste time on a statistical analysis which ultimately means nothing.

there is an old saying at the track that goes something like:

If you want to save some money-don't go to the track!
Going to the track is ONLY about spending money-usually LOTS of it!
It is in order to achieve a desired result....success.
    Winnining....

If you want to save money-don't buy a Ferrari!
Owning a Ferrari is only about spending money on it-usually LOTS of it!
It is in order to achieve a desired result....satisfaction.
    And LOTS of it...

If you use your CAR, it requires regular, copious, MAINTENANCE and REPAIRS...
To insure it against a failure from guaging incorrectly your service intervals versus a cost index is, it seems, lacking in congruity?

Couldn't disagree more on the money part. I've had my car for nearly 20 years and haven't spent as much on it as I did on my Austin Healey 3000. If I've spent $4000 on it in that time, that's a lot. On the other hand, I've probably got 500 hours into it from the first time I washed it to the last time I changed the oil. All a labor of love.
