    Let's see....Vinny says not a harsh winter.
Sussex/Morris county had snow showers when we had rain Sat. morning

And I found two fuzzy catapillars with overcoats on Sunday morning amidst the frost. Yep, it's gonna be a cold one.

Aww... meanie. :p Did you see the poster's location? He probably doesn't have a clue what the weather is like there and was curious as to if it typically snows in the beginning of December.

When I went to Pennsylvania in the middle of Dec '05 it snowed a bit and it was COLD!! So, to answer your question, 3604u, I think it's a distinct possibility, but what do I know? I'm a Florida girl. :)

On a funny, related note, my best friend says that meteorologists are like having fortune tellers on the news. That's especially true In Florida...it rains sporadically throughout the day 5 minutes at a time, it's weird. They'll tell us that there's going to be a massive hurricane and we'll have beach weather. It's silly.

I wanted to let you know that I just spoke with my brother a little while ago and we were very interested in taking the kids to the circus, but when I looked it up I found that the only show time for Friday, the 16th, was at 6:30. It'll be too late for the little ones because we'll be out all day and I think it may even be sold out. They had earlier show times on Thurs. and Sat., though. Although it won't work out this time it was a really great suggestion. Thank you!!! :)

I really just can't handle the cold weather. I've lived in Florida my entire life and never had to rough a frigid Winter. It got pretty cold in Jacksonville when I lived there and actually snowed a bit a couple times, but nothing like NY.

I know that rules are rules. It's a shame a bunch of idiots had to ruin it for everyone. :(

Consider yourself lucky if you've never seen UGG boots. They didn't really catch on in Florida, thankfully, but they were pretty trendy in California and New York. http://www.puddlebeach.com.au/products/JU/JU-ACLASSICSHORT_SAND.JPG

    Ha ha ha...nice.

FINALLY! THANK THE LORD OR WHATEVER YOU BELIEVE IN! A girl who understands how F*cking hideous those things are. Please, someone kill this "fashion" trend. And while you're at it, please, someone, also put an end to pants under skirts. I mean really, WTF?!

LOL, then why are you coming to NYC in the cold instead of in the spring? Well, nothing like NYC at Christmas time though...I'll bet some of the decorations are up...too bad the tree at Rockefeller Center is not yet.

As for things to do...what I like in the city mostly touristy stuff cause well, I'm always a tourist when I go to NYC:
FAO Schwartz there's an ice cream parlor in the middle of the store.

Toys R Us in Times Square...giant ferris wheel inside the store.

Chocolate fan? Don't forget the M&M Store and the Hershey store, I think they're both in Times Square.

    Tiffany's.

Macy's Herald Square...it's like the oldest Macy's or biggest or something...but it's where the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade ends.

Empire State Building...hope you're not afraid of heights. Buy your tickets online so this way you only have to wait in the line to go up the elevator. Don't forget your camera.

Central Park...ever take a walk through it or some of it? Also, there is a zoo in it too...but definitely definitely definitely, once you are inside it, to stop and think that someone stopped and put in this huge park in the middle of the city. It's something like 50ish blocks! (OK, these little things amuse and amaze me.) Might want to take a horse carriage through too...you can find them around the edge of the park near FAO/The Plaza area off 5th.

Depending on how old your niece is, The American Girl store.

Rockefeller Center...take the NBC tour if you're a fan of Saturday Night Live. You'll get to go through the studio that it's shot in and see where Howard Stern once ran his radio program from.

Go see a show...although, looks like Broadway has gone dark with the recent strike.

    Places to eat:
John's Pizzeria...good pizza and nice decor at their 44th street location.

Tao...I know, trendy and expensive but I love it still. Be prepared to wait even if you have reservations, and be prepared to shell out a lot of money but I did run into Stiffler there!

Go shopping...5th Avenue to window shop, but also SoHo and other areas. Oh, and remember in New York, it's Howston not Houston. ;-)

I'll bet that by the end of your visit you get a pair of UGGs too!

LOL, from what I've seen, UGGs are getting even more popular...just yesterday at Cars and Coffee in PA we witnessed a mother daughter combo with matching UGGs.

The UGG fashion trend is dead. Any girl that's still wearing them is an even bigger fashion victim than she was when she purchased them when they were "in."

I'm guilty of wearing black leggings under dresses and skirts, sorry! I actually did it last night. I don't wear pants under my skirts, though. Most of the time I wear my boots and it just looks like tights. I think it looks cute. :)

I think it might be fun to take the kids to the Toys R Us store. My niece will be 10 months, so American Girl is a little advanced...I still have mine actually. :)

I'd like to go to 5th Ave and window shop a bit. I've spent a lot of money on clothing for the trip recently, so I don't think I'll need to buy anything. I'm only bringing one bag, too, so if I shop too much I'll have to ship things home!

Central Park, Empire State Building, Brooklyn bridge, and Rockefeller are all on the list. My brother was talking about doing Rockefeller Center on Friday with the kids...who knows? I looked into ice skating and then going to one of the restaurants that overlooks the rink, but WHOA!!! They were really pricey. I'm not looking to eat at pricey venues during my stay, I do that here enough, ya know? :)

Yes, I checked, he has 3 locations, I wonder if the forecasters in any of the 3 locations are able to predict the weather with any degree of certainty. I guess I should have put a :) or a J/K to show that I wasn't being a "meanie", but I just felt that a question like that was deserving of my response. It's currently 35 degrees out, this morning it was 28 degrees, and I'm only 30 miles out of NYC. Bring your Uggs, or go get some, they're pretty cheap now that they're officially a "dead fashion item"!! Make sure that whatever car you ride in for the Turkey run has heated seats!

Well, I'm sure it does, on you :). But I'm referring to actual, full-on pants. Not so much leggings.. Those I can understand, especially in the northeast.
Anyway, sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread. I was just so excited to actually hear a female admit that UGGs are just bloody awful. I guess I still see them around too much here.

OK, this must be a new trend or the women you know don't know how to dress. :D

Honestly, none of my close friends have owned a pair of the UGGly boots...or maybe they did and just didn't tell me. Haha. :D

LOL, might be both...I do live in Delaware! Luckily none of my female friends do it...and the males tend not to wear their skirts in public. ;-)

As for UGGs...I really had no idea how popular they were...I had seen a few women (including my sister who lives out west) with them last year but I was up at King of Prussia mall (a big mall with lot's of high end stores) last weekend and I swear 2 out of 3 women had them on!

My twin 13 year old daughters just came back from the weekend in the city with friends. They did all kinds of stuff but the thing that they talked about most was seeing the Naked Cowboy in Times Square, so you might have to add that to your list of things to do.

By the way, against my better judgment we took everyone to Tavern on the Green for brunch today because our friends thought that their daughter and our girls would enjoy the spectacle. Undeniably a beautiful setting but what an overpriced tourist trap with the most mediocre food! A 14 food rating in Zagat's is not understatement. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience, as in never again! Still, the place was packed!

    John

PS Knowing that the former owner of TOTG, Warner LeRoy, once owned a Ferrari 412 (s/n 66557), didn't really make it any better!

I'm of the mind he's one of the things to avoid in NY

Well if you paid silly money for them when they hit the fashion trend I suspect you'd be inclined to wear them no matter how ugly just to justify the expenditure.

I will avoid Tavern on the Green.

I went to Virgil's for lunch in Times Square and that was enjoyable. I wouldn't mind going there again. :)
I've actually been to King of Prussia mall several times. Most of my family lives in Philadelphia, and that's the only decent place to shop.
I posted a link above, but I'll host them just for you. :p
