I would like to change my cluster in the 355 to a Motec cluster.

use the motec dash datalogger. buy it from Australia, the US agent is retarded. It will take you about 20 hours to set it up.

I use it on my race car, with the same Bosch ecu as the 95 355, thats how I know you should figure on about 20 hours to set it up.

You will need to assign every single input, analog or digital, and then work out how many pulses per mile, per rpm, the scale of the water temp, oil temp etc. Once you get all that done, it is very simple. You can set up alarms, shift points, Gear position indicator etc.

Its not that hard, and virtually all the wires are at the instrument cluster pinout except for the three guages down below. You could also configure Motec to indicate the oil temp, clock and fuel level. Then you can get rid of the three gauges down below and install a double din NAV!

 

I tried changing my instruments last winter but could not get the speedo or the tach to read correctly. I was thinking of doing the Motec or Stack gauge. I had Valence make a carbon fiber instument panel for these gauges.

X----if this involves cutting up the dash--I would say no---just stick with stock--unless you plan on tracking the heck out of that beautiful yellow monster-- ;D

 

There is no cutting of the dash. That carbon piece is an exact replica of the stock piece including all the bulb attachments, mounting, warning lights etc. The only difference is the hole arrangment. It is completly interchanangable with the stock one. Remove it like the stock piece and put in the stock piece.

 

Instruments and new gauge faces were about $700 and the new carbon fiber piece about another $700. That is why I would like to get it to work.

 

You shouldn't have to cut the dash but you would need a new insert made that replaces the stock piece. I would make sure that everthing works first. I made the mistake of getting the dash insert, gauge etc figuring that it would work with no Problem. Wrong! How will they make all the gauge work and what kind of sensors will you need for the temp and pressure gauges? Will they fit the threads of Ferrari and like the oil temp sensor, how long is the sensor? The stock one is very long to fit deep into the oil tank to give a good reading. I could not find an aftermarket one that was more than half the correct length.

 

The Motec is configured to use the stock sensors by programming in the upper and lower resistances, voltages or pulses (in the case of a digital input ie speedsensor)

Many, many guages can be bought to use the stock sensors on most cars. The sensors are amazingly generic, you just need to buy the right guages.

Hey Xavier: By the way, disconnect your wiring harness from the cluster, and clean or preferably Stabilant-22 on the connector to the speedo. This will probbly fix it right up.
