I am curious to get opinions as to what the top 3 books are that document both Ferrari's racing and street car history. Thanks.

My top three (from my library) are Jonathan Thompson's "Ferrari Formula 1", and Thompson, Fitzgerald, and Merritt's "Ferrari The Sports and Gran Turismo Cars". The third would be "Ferrari The Man The Machines", published by Automobile Quarterly in 1975. This one has a variety of authors by chapter; Phil Hill, Denis Jenkinson, Griffith Borgeson, etc.

Of course, none of these will do you much good if you're more interested in the recent history as they all date from around the mid-seventies (as does my car).

A new and excellent book that I recently acquired is "Ferrari Grand Prix Moments", a collection of Jesse Alexander's F1 photographs from the the 50's and early 60's. Also highly recommended, if that era is of interest.

No One book has documented both the street and racing models in any great detail
There are certainly no modern works that have the depth that was provided by the likes of Stanley Nowak's 40 Years on the road, or Jess Pourrett's 250 GT - The Competition cars, or Prunets The Sports Racing and Prototype cars or the works of Hans Tanner amongst many others.

There are plenty of books available that cover the majority of models but you will not gain any great knowledge of the cars.

For a basic and fairly up to date overview Kieth Bluemels "ferrari - the road cars" and Ferrari - the racing cars" covers most bases.
But for the more detailed look you have to go for specific titles for each model.

    Massini's & Anselmi's work on the coachbuilt Ferrari's (Making a Difference)
Massini's work on the Vignale cars (Ferrari by Vignale)
Marchiano's work on the Zagato cars (Ferrari by Vignale)
The 250 Competition cars by Pourrett
All of the editions by Hans Tanner
40 years on the road by Stan Nowak
Le Ferrari di Pininfarina by Anselmi

All of these ^^^ and many more cover a lot of models but back it up with substantial knowledge.

Any of the works by Antoine Prunet, Gerald Roush, Keith Bluemel, Fitgerald, Merritt, Thompson, Nye (the list can go on) are essential reading.

    My three favourite are

    Le Ferrari di Pininfarina
    Making a Difference
Ferrari Sports Racing & Prototype cars

    If you want to cover the areas mentioned above then my 3 would be;
Ferrari Opera Omnia by Automobilia - a 3 volume Ferrari encyclopedia -expensive but stacks of information
Formula Ferrari by Paolo D'Alessio - an excellent F1 book - goes up to 2002
Ferrari 50 Years on the Track - Renwick & Starkey - great coverage of the sports racing cars (but some of the chassis histories are questionable)
    Nathan
Oh, and don't forget "Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer - The Road & Race Legends" by Nathan Beehl ;)

One of my favorites: The Original Ferrari V8. Great book, covers the line from the Dinos through the 348, in quite a bit of detail.
