Does anyone have the 70-300mm AF-S Nikkor Lens? I really want this lens but I haven't tried it out and my local shop doesn't have it in stock.

I had it before, but I sold it a while ago to put finish of the money I needed for my 70-200mm. It was a decent lens, and it often underestimated; however, I would highly recommend saving up a bit more a forking out the extra $ for some f2.8 glass, such as the 70-200mm.

    Good luck with your decision,

    John

Well I have the 18-55mm kit lens and then got a 55-200mm (I always think I made a mistake here but then remember I only paid about $100 for it) and the $500ish price of this lens is pushing it for a Christmas present already, do you have any other suggestions for something sub$500? It has to be AF-S since I have a D40.

I got mine last Christmas and really like it. Here are a couple of pics with it. Getting ready to try it on a deer hunt in early December, so should get some tougher low light situations to test it out.

What camera were those taken with? Also are any of those taken at 300mm? On my 55-200 I really lose quality at 200 and don't want to get a lens that happens to.

The were taken with a Nikon D-80. I know the eagle was at 300mm, and I haven't noticed a quality loss in the higher ranges.

It is a very good lens from what i have read... I am saving for the 70-200 2.8 that was stated above, there really is a difference in PQ with the professional lenses. You can get a 70-300 VR for under $400 on most of the Buy/Sell forums out there..
If you need some links, PM me.

    good luck

I have to 70-200 2.8 on a D-80. It's expensive, but you will keep it.

I thought I would respond here as opposed to a pm. What buy/sell forums would you suggest?

I have the VR Version and it is good for what I need it for until I need to take faster pictures. What are you shooting? For something like race cars you need f2.8 but for landscapes it is fine. For birds it is hard because of distance.
