Yeah, that schedule looks pretty weak, and adding Nebraska would not help this year. The end of the regular season usually has a few surprises, it should get interesting next week.

Yeah, a king cake would've been nice, but another SEC national champion would be just fine with me ;).

I'm so eager to see what coaching shake-ups are going to/ not going to happen. Tuberville to A&M? Less to Michigan? Who will replace Callahan at Nebraska? Will Weiss keep his post at Notre Dame? If those posts are empty, who will fill them?

I think everyone would agree that this has been one of the craziest seasons of college football to date, for a whole host of reasons and results. I have no reason to believe that would stop in the rest of the season or the offseason.

You can slide this year . :) I'm up in Halifax, NS until May so I won't be able to eat a whole King Cake by my self. ( at least not without gaining 20 lbs) But for next year Haydel's Bakery is one of the best.

It's not bad, so no reason to be sorry. There are 3 Big XII teams in the top 5, for example.

Of the teams I have seen play this year, OU, Kansas, LSU, Oregon and Ohio State looked the best. Only Kansas has a perfect record. LSU's defense looks the best. OUs offense is damn good with a freshman QB. Kansas looks good all around. Oregon and tOSU both lost at home to unranked opponents. Oregon lost early in the season, tOSU last week. LSU and OU both lost early, road games. That's how I see things.

Lets take a look at this tough undefeated Kansas Team

    Date Game Stadium TV Time
    Sat., Sep. 1 Kansas 52, C. Michigan 7
Sat., Sep. 8 Kansas 62, Se Louisiana 0
    Sat., Sep. 15 Kansas 45, Toledo 13
Sat., Sep. 22 Kansas 55, FIU 3 MS
Sat., Oct. 6 Kansas 30, Kansas State 24*
    Sat., Oct. 13 Kansas 58, Baylor 10*
    Sat., Oct. 20 Kansas 19, Colorado 14*
    Sat., Oct. 27 Kansas 19, Texas A&M 11*
    Sat., Nov. 3 Kansas 76, Nebraska 39*
Sat., Nov. 10 Kansas 43, Oklahoma State 28
Sat., Nov. 17 Iowa State at Kansas* MS ABC 2:30 p.m.
    Gametracker
Sat., Nov. 24 Missouri vs. Kansas* AS

The combined record of their opponents is 42-60. Only 2 thats right 2 of their wins were against teams with a winning record. And those were A&M and Central Michigan. They would have to be 30 and 0 playing a schedule like that before they should get top 10 credibility.

Kansas will have problems when they face Mizzou.

If they do beat Mizzou, I'll be surprised if they can beat Oklahoma for the Big 12 Championship.

No, no, no, it's bad. Kansas hasn't played anyone and has been fortunate to avoid a good OU team and a streaky UT team (UT hasn't been that good this year imo). Mizzou has a pretty good offense, but I'm still not sold on them either given that OU has already beaten them. FWIW, I think Boise State can beat OU this year. :)

I was following your thinking until you spouted this line. Ridiculous!

I'd like to see a home and home series with OU and Boise State, BTW.

The Boise State / OU game was great because OU was uninspried, much like tOSU in the championship game. But that uninspired effort resulted in a very even match with some of the most entertaining football ever!

With the Michigan/ Ohio State game coming up, the talk of Lloyd Carr's departure from Ann Arbor has resurfaced, as has the talk of his replacement. The front runner is still Less Miles. Michigan likes to hire "Michigan men," and Miles is one with a proven record of success.

Miles was on Jim Rome today and completely darted answering both whether he'd talked to anyone at Michigan about the head job or whether he'd be in Baton Rouge next season. Less no doubt learned from his predecessor about what not to say to mid-season coaching rumors, but he certainly didn't say "I'm definately staying at LSU."

Frank: What's the talk from some of the more rational-minded(if there are any :D) LSU fans?

In my opinion, as I've said before, Miles only stays if LSU wins a national title this year, and even then I wouldn't bet the farm on him staying. If he loses one game, the fans will turn on him and I think expect him to leave, and that will affect his decision (if it happens).

He'd be crazy to leave what he's been given at LSU, but he will never get a better opportunity to coach at his alma mater than right now. He met his wife in Ann Arbor, he will be worshiped rather than questioned, and he idolized Bo Schembechler.

I want to know that IF(it's a big if) Miles leaves, who will replace him at LSU? Bo Pelini may be an option, but he could very well be on his way to Lincoln, Nebraska in the spring. I've tried to brainstorm but I can't get a short list going for a good fit. So who else? Anyone, please give me some answers, and maybe a reason or two why. Also, if you think someone else will take the spot at Michigan if it's not Miles.

OSU wasn't uninspired. They were just slow. That's why they also go by the name slOwSU. :D They got exposed again this season for being an old slow team. Running the same offense and defense that's been done for decades and once a spread offense comes in (Illinois last week), smashed.

If Miles loses one more game there will be a Uhaul circling his house and people helping pack the dishes. :) If LSU wins the SEC this year and the National Championship I think Miles would be a fool to leave a school coming off of a National Championship year that can recruit anyone they want. But the pull of his alma mater will be strong and I can understand that , You are right about the fans turning on him with one more loss. remember how fast firelsucoaches.com came up after the TN loss in 05. Even though he has only lost 5 games in 3 seasons people believe that the reason for those losses was Les Miles getting out coached. That was the case in the 05 TN loss when LSU dominated TN in the first half and Miles backed off in the second half . I also feel it is true of the KY game this year. I still think Steve Spurrier will get the LSU job if it is open.

I hadn't heard that one, and I'm in Gamecock country. Not to say I don't think he'd go if he really wants to win and only win, but I hadn't heard any of Spurrier along that front.

Michigan move could be expensive for Miles

With speculation high that Michigan Coach Lloyd Carr will announce his retirement as early as Monday, the spotlight could shift to LSU’s Les Miles, who is considered the most likely successor. Miles played and coached at Michigan, and his success at LSU (he is 31-5 in two-plus seasons) puts him at the top of the list of potential new coaches for the Wolverines. Prying Miles from his current job will be expensive, however. Miles has a “termination by coach” section of his contract, which requires him to pay LSU $1.25 million if he leaves for the Wolverines. Michigan is the only school to which the clause applies. LSU Chancellor Sean O’Keefe, meanwhile, told Louisiana Gannett News that he is not concerned about Miles leaving the Tigers for Michigan. "From what he's expressed to me recently, Les is very happy at LSU and not interested in Michigan," O'Keefe said. "He's extremely pleased with his contract and with the support from the university he has received." Miles’ contract also calls for him to become one of the three highest-paid college coaches in the country if he wins the national championship.

Where did that 'word' come from? Is there any literature about this or is it just heresay? I'm not saying it's not true, but if it is, I think I would have heard something by now, especially around here.

Anyone else on the short list other than Spurrier?

Spurrier's problem right now is recruiting talent. Pretty hard to do given his location and status of his school. You got Florida, Georgia, and to a lesser extent Tennessee, surrounding your school. In-state, you have Clemson which always gets national attention and high pre-season rankings.

If he goes to LSU where the talent is incredible, I could easily see him doing what he did at Florida all over again. He's still the best gameday coach that is currently coaching. They've lost their games mainly because of talent issues imo (especially at QB). If Tebow was on the other team this past Saturday, Gators would've lost.
