So I was thinking... The Ferrari's will have #1 and #2 on their cars next year! Will the McLaren's be #22 and #23? That would be really funny. How do they decide which teams get which numbers? Is it off the WDC or WCC order? Franando won the 2006 WDC at Renault, so why did the McLaren's wear #1 and #2 this year rather than Renault? It seems to be kind of a mix?
#1 and #2 is allocated to the team that wins the previous years' WDC - the rest of the numbers are allocated based on the previous years' WCC
Wrong #1 is carried with whoever won the previous years WDC no matter what team he ends up at. This team also gets the #2 as well, the rest of the field is decided on WCC points. If the reigning WDC doesn't return then no one runs the #1.
McLaren doesn't deserve any numbers next year. I mean they did have 0 points right? It will be like testing a McLaren, rather than driving a Ferrari-McLaren
Given that it appears cheating in F1 is not restricted solely to McLaren, perhaps we can have a series next year with no participants, based on your logic.
Ferrari- 1 2 BMW- 3 4 Renault- 5 6 Williams- 7 8 Red Bull- 9 10 Toyota- 11 12 NO NUMBER 13 STR- 14 15 Honda- 16 17 Super Aguri- 18 19 Spyker/Force India- 20 21 I'm not sure if McLaren will have 22, 23 or 24,25, with ProDrive coming in. My guess is McLaren 22,23 and ProDrive 24,25
Exactly, thus why McLaren #3 in Constructors received numbers 1 and 2, Renault #1 in Constructors was 3 and 4, and Ferrari #2 in Constructors received 5 and 6
The number 4 is considered unlucky in China/Japan/Asia. I consider Pi to the E to be unlucky, 22.45915772
I don't know about you guys... but I think 2008 is going to be an INCREDIBLE season to watch F1. Ferrari coming wearing #1 and #2 coming off the WDC and WCC victories. McLaren will still have a fast package and more experienced Hamilton. Renualt could make a come back if they get Alonso. Honda could show some new success bringing in Ross Brawn's experience. Torro Rosso started showing some success with Vettel at the end of the year. Plus, no TC, which will separate the men from the boys give a chance to good drivers in mid-pack cars. I really think we have a chance to see a season with lots of teams scoring lots of points. It should make up for the scandal plagued 2007.
