As per the title, my Dad is turning the big 6-0 on October 10th. I have been at a loss as to what to get him, then it dawned on me that this is also Ferrari's 60th year, and since Dad has never been for a ride in one, what a nifty present a Ferrari would be. Mom echoed the sentiment, but when I emptied the piggy bank, I came up with enough for 1:24 or maybe 1:18 scale. :(

Dad's a frugal man; An Ivy-league educated, semi-retired Professor of Anatomy, NY Times-reviewed author, and regeneration researcher, he has lived well, travels the globe, and built his dream home about 5 years ago, but buys slow and inexpensive cars, and makes no apology for doing so... however, he has an eye for art, and the shiny red things did catch his eye at the Boston MFA Lauren exhibit... so I suspect this would be quite a thrill for him.

I'm willing to offer some financial compensation for your gas & effort as appropriate, and thank you in advance for your generosity in sharing your car and time...

Happy to accept your PMs if you'd prefer to keep it low profile (Mr. Lauren- perhaps that NART Spyder needs some exercise? Or perhaps the TR... ;) ), or post here with your thoughts and ideas. Doesn't have to be the 10th (in fact, better on a weekend)... Mom is hosting a little party in his honor on the eve of the 13th and it might be cool if he arrived via Cavallino... whatever fits your schedule.

    Thanks in advance,

    Too much to ask?

Thanks to the 140 people who at least read my thread... even if nobody responded! :(

    Still hoping...

    Thanks.

We see requests like yours not that infrequently here. Unfortunately, they very rarely get any kind of response. Sorry...

I'm happy to give a ride to just about anyone who's truly interested. Where are you?

I think you have to be reasonable (but understand - ya don't ask, ya don't get". There are a good number of Ferrari owners in the Boston area, but Damariscotta is 160 miles and at least 3 hours from here. That represents a solid 8 hours if you include time on site. It's a time issue more than anything. Accepting money for something like that creates liability for the owner in that it now becomes a "for hire" situation. It's not about money though, just time. Tell your father to come down and celebrate his birthday in Boston and I'm sure you could get him in a few F-cars

    Tad,
If your dad lived in MA, you would have 10 offers here. New England Fchatters are very generous and friendly. But there just aren't that many known fchatters in Maine! If he is willing to come to MA, I will offer him a ride in my 308 and he can drive the Mondial.

You may get a better response if you posted closer to where you live.

No argument there, Maine is definitely in New England. However if you bothered to read my very simple post, I simply stated that he should post where HE lives and see what response he gets.

Okay... the last couple posts in this thread had me laughing.

I already got Dad sorted out for his birthday, but I do want to acknowledge and say 'thanks' to the generous offers of the Boston folks and others. Yes, Dad is in Maine, which is, I'm quite certain, part of New England (though some of the locals might consider secession a viable and desirable option) and I am in Oregon, so if I posted locally, that would involve a ~6000 mile round trip for one of the local crew. As I mentioned, I do belong to the local club, NWRFCA and FCA, and regularly attend events, riding in everything from a humble 400i to a 599 GTB and driving 330 GTC and TR when generous offers were extended by their owners.

In any case, Dad was quite happy with his gift (woodworking tool set) and had no idea I was trying to make this happen, so no disappointment. Again, thanks for your responses, and keep it shiny side up!

    Regards,
    Tad

    Hi Tad,
A friend of mine sent me the link to this post. Too bad I didn't get it earlier, I would have been able to help you out. Damariscotta is only like 45 minutes from house. Right now my F-car is put up for the winter (in fact we just had sleet and freezing rain last night). But when I break it out in the springtime I would love to hook up with your dad and give him a ride in the 308. Heck, I'll even let him drive it. PM me your contact info and I'll send you mine.
    B/R,
    Pete.

As all us northern tier Fcar owners are so begrudgingly aware, spring is a long way away...but...when it happens, I'm sure Tad and dad are gonna want some pictures of "the event". Please make sure we see them also. I always love to see the "kid in a candy store" smile on there faces.
