    My dictionary disagrees and has no entry for "concours."

    Once a word is adopted into the english language, you better live with the english spelling - or go right ahead and use the original language, but don't mix and match.

    Concourse - 1) A great crowd. 2) A large open space for a gathering.

    Technically, I guess it stands for "concours d'elegance", so "concours" is the proper spelling. Perhaps "concourse" is the americanized version ...

    "Concours" is French for contest or competition and in the car sense is used most frequently for car shows, where cars compete in certain aesthetic and mechanical competitions like the Pebble Beach Beach Concours d' Elegance, which more properly should be "Caillou Plage Concours d' Elegance" if they are going the French route. Similarly the Italian word "Concorso" is used for car gatherings featuring Italian vehicles.
