I get my 3M done after market. I want the 3M to extend around corners etc and care less how it looks as I am putting it on for specific drives not general use. You can see from my photos that I even put chicken wire over my grill and it got holes punched in it from rocks. High speed driving in China is a bit different from other places

Car is back to the dealer for a new TFT. Don't know what it is about me and 599 TFT's. I seem to have the wrong electrical current in my fingertips. 2 TFT's on my first 599 and now another one on my 2nd 599. Has anyone anywhere other than me had TFT problems?

Well I just had to do my 1,000th post on my own thread! Fchat is the best way to avoid getting stressed about a delayed flight. I am at HK airport on my way to Bucharest and my flight was just delayed until 1:40am. Thank goodness for Fchat to happily kill an hour :):):)

Got my 599 back today with the new TFT. It is different from the old one. I am told there is an enhancement during 07. My 07 599 was delivered with the same TFT as my 06 599 had. I had problems with both so I am hoping that this is the end of the story

Well 599 brethern this is the end of the line for me. I have sold my silver 599 to a good friend and I will not buy another 599. I am also going to pass on the 599 Spyder. Been a fantastic 1 year plus and the 599 definitely does not owe me anything - I enjoyed every second. Looking forward to the arrival of my 430S sometime around the middle of 08. In the meantime I am going to take some time to enjoy my older Fcars. I will ship my Daytona to Italy for the 40th anniversary celebrations next Easter

This has to be a first, going through two 599's in one thread :)

When will the first 430 Scuderia's be delivered in HK, is yours one of them? Im looking forward to seeing it in person in Dec at the unvieling.

Red on a 599 is just pure beauty. You made a wonderful choice! Congrats!

Thank you for the compliment. But I must tell you how I feel looking back. Just my personal opinions and no offence intended to those who see beauty differently. It seemed like a good idea at the time but I quickly regretted my Rosso Scuderia 599 with monobloc wheels. It felt very 2004 CS. Dated and rather boring. I also regretted the beige interior in that car. IMO Rosso Scuderia and beige do not work well together. My silver car was better in every respect IMO. The lines of the car were stunning. The silver car stood out brilliantly in a sea of red. The stock wheels are so much better than monobloc IMO and I loved my simple silver calipers. IMO, if you must have red (which I strongly advise against for the 599), Rosso Corso is the best colour.

First 430S's to HK are still unknown as to exact arrival time. Best guess is June July. Unfortunately I will miss the Dec unveiling as I will be sitting on a beach in Hawaii. I don't know exactly where I rank in the food chain of 430S deliveries but I am hoping to be closer to the front than the middle. It is not too transparent. I have had my deposit in for a long time but so have many others

    That was fast !

Great decision on enjoying the Daytona a little more. The more i think about the cars the more i like the old ones with their smell, mechanical noises everywhere etc...

Looking forward to a Daytona thread:D

Always a pleasure to hear from you.

It was fast. 599 was not for sale but a friend wanted it so I let it go. I had no plans to use her for any trips before my 430S arrives so it is just as well to sell a bit early rather than a bit late!

I am also busy getting my garage renovations finished, spending a lot of time at the race track, building a Cobra replica based on a TVR works race car, building a rigid chopper based on a '74 Ironhead - so not that much interest in new cars right now. Looking forward to my Evo X in January - that is about it!

No need for a Daytona thread i am afraid. My car is in Concours condition, it is troublefree, no projects planned, oil change and tune up once a year. Pretty boring. Italy trip will be interesting but that will be about the event and there will no doubt be better connected Fchatters than me to write the thread

    Just saw these comments.

Engine braking is not a substitute for proper threshold braking technique, but it's wrong to suggest engine braking is not necessary for quickest lap times. To say so is to assume the brake bias is set so that both front and rear tires are simultaneously at their limit of adhesion from braking alone. This is rarely the case due to handling, stability, track condition, and driving style considerations when setting up the brake bias.

Normally brake bias is set so the front will lockup much earlier than the rear, consequently engine braking is used to exploit the additional rear grip still available. If this was not so, then no professional driver will bother to perfect the skill of going down through all the gears from say 6th to 2nd. Every Schumacher wanna be can just go 6th straight to 2nd. On track with or without engine braking is the difference between passing someone or being passed.

Of course on the street at anything remotely close to legal speeds, then egine braking is not necessary.

Once I decided to do the Daytona 40th rather than an Easter China drive the 599 became superfluous. I did not know about the Daytona 40th when we were chatting. I could not see any reason to leave the car sitting for a long time

Absolutely true. Even on the street engine braking can be the difference between a damp armpit moment and disaster. An Fcar following me crashed because he could not slow down as fast as me when a lane on a highway in China unexpectedly became a construction zone. I went through my gears at rev limit while maximum pedal pressure and he relied on the brakes

But anyone reading this should be aware that CWWHK and I have the same driving instructor so it is not surprising that we think the same way. Of course CWWHK is the better student

Mine was replaced because the temp reading in F would not go past 88. In Phoenix 88 is less than the nighttime low in summer :)

LOL. I had 3 TFT's that had Jack Skeleton images of the parking sensors. My bad parking skills must have traumatised the car

Here's something interesting that I discovered - in Trip A or B mode there should be a line that indicates maximum speed reached in that mode, My replaced TFT no longer has that line. It now displays total hours driven. I'm wondering if the FNA lawyers got involved here where the TFT would or could provide evidence of speeding if it was subpoenad by authorities, and that could somehow come back to include FNA in the complaint. Paranoia certainly, but not unknown in the US legal system. (I'll post this as separate topic as well)

Well it's not just PD the French champion that does it. Our Fin champion PS from German F3 series also use engine braking and he does it at red line.
