I don't want to disturb discussion on 0854 but this link I did find today, hope its not a repost: http://www.pro-steilstrecke.de/nordschleife19651974.htm Nürburgring 1000 km Dino 206 S 1966 312 P 1969 The Dino picture is titled: The 6- wheel Ferrari Dino 206S had to start in Prototype-class. Long before Ken Tyrell Enzo Ferrari tried this revolutionary new Design for endurance Racing. Third Place was the result of this risky step. Driver Ritchie Ginther. Bruno. I do hate to start sounding like Marcel Massini .... but don't believe everything you read on Barchetta !! There are many mistakes !! The 3 Hours of Cape Town is Killarney !! Pietermaritzburg is yet another small South African track - the Roy Hesketh Circuit. See: http://www.classicscars.com/wspr/results/spring/spring1968.html
Not necessarily so, Dr. Stu. Most of these South African tracks are relatively short and very tight hence great levellers of machinery. Watch the MGB in the video below. Me neither . But .... Heres the 'Old Maestro', David Piper, then aged 74, in his 250LM - showing a willing pupil the way around Killarney for most of the lap. Note this is Killarney (2 Ls) near Cape Town. You can see Table Mountain in some parts of the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmpVRzCnw1k (Turn up the speaker volume and enjoy).
thousand thank P4 . I get information to update my cards. I know barchetta is not perfect but which is it? ? ? one question, is just: yes, yes, I know this site, much better Barchetta, because it all the results not only Ferrari
Pas un problème. Mon plaisir, Bruno (Don't get me wrong - Barchetta is a very useful resource - just that there are some mistakes). I don't quite understand your question, Bruno - and I need to get my own Excel records straight, first !!
Now, where was I, before I wandered off topic ? Ah Yes. I bought this little David Piper signed photo on eBay last week. It arrived in this mornings post: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150182370609 I havent yet sussed out which race this was, but it looks like late 67, as #0854 appears as yet 'unmodified'. Would anybody like to 'caption' it for me ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
http://offer.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=320183741920 There is one more on ebay, do a little search. Nice items!
I think you may be correct, Bruno. David really didn't start seriously modifying #0854 till the latter part of 1968. Here's a couple of photos from the Swedish G.P., Karlskoga in August '68, which followed the Solitude G.P.. Veeeery interesting thread! -Thanks for the nice Le Mans photo BOUDEWIJN... -Interesting stuff in David's garden... Can I have a piece? -I can confirm that n°2 in the corner with the Alfa-Romeo 33 n°15 is at Hockenheim. Below is a photo from my friend Michel BOLLEE from Paris. #0854 with some rear modifications during 1000 km of Paris at Monthléry in 1968. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hmmm...Paul. I visited the Karlskoga race in person...and remember very well "Pipes" winning...after "JoBo" went off in the first curve in his McLaren. "JoBo" made a great job to come in 2:nd and was treated as a winner... although he was not. One thing though...I can´t see any rearview mirrors on Davids car...strange isn´t it?
See your post 3012. Inside mirror that if adjusted can also give you a view out the side. (Not a great one)
Pardon me Jim...it wasn´t my post...but if you have a close look there are rearview mirrors on the fenders. Best: Staffan
Alfa Romeo kicking some Ferrari @rse yet again by an impressive around the outside passing move ... Pete
