I just got back from the L.A. Auto Show. My Ferrari key gave me access to the Ferrari area where I checked out the 2 Scuderias on display. It also gave me access to the Lamborghini area where I saw their new $1mil+ car. BTW, Roy(the owner(?)) from Lamborghini in Calabasas was very polite and friendly.

However, when I asked to enter the Maserati area to see the new coupes (which I was considering for my wife), they told me that my Ferrari ownership was not enough to allow me access to their area. They told me that I either needed to be invited, or be a current owner of a Maserati. What the #&*@?

Apparently, they are still in shock that a new model from Maserati actually has a wait list and can't recognize a serious, potential, buyer when they see one.

Anyway, the 430 Scuderias were nice.

Would you want the Ferrari area to let people in with Maserati keys...or Honda keys ... how about with Kia keys ?

Did they let Maserati owners into the Ferrari section? If not, why should Ferrari owners receive special treatment?

Dumb move for Maser, obviously someone with a Ferrari is able to afford a Maser and is a potential customer. Turning away a potential customer isn't a great idea.

There are many other cars to buy. Imagine how you'll be treated after you part with your hard earned dollars.

I remember when we would go to Ferrari stuff and they would make you look at the Masers first. Not very smart on their part to turn anyone away. That's not the way to build exclusivity.

When we went to Pebble in 04, Maybach gave us free champaign to sit in and look at their cars. Better marketing IMVHO.

I'm kind of suprised by peoples responses in regards to being a potential customer. If it was Ferrari pulling the same thing it'd be acceptable because Ferrari has no problems fulfilling all of their orders. Maserati is now in the same position they have a car where demand exceeds supply and they are staying loyal to Maserati owners who have been buying their cars before the Gran Turismo. The customers who supported them when resale value was terrible, they received bad reviews, and people looked down on the car. Now that the Gran Turismo has been such a hit and they are able to turn the tables, people are offended?

I wasn't offended. It takes a lot more than just observing bad business practice to offend me. Just perplexed that they would not permit a person who wasn't just a lookey loo to look at their cars, especially when there was no one else in their display area. Sure they don't know whether I have the means to buy one of their cars. However, as sales/marketing people, it would have been polite and wise to assume that I, just as anyone else asking, had the means to purchase one of their cars. As you know from your Maserati ownership, they do have their 4-door sedans to sell too.

From your response, you seem to think it is okay for an Ugly Betty(I'm not referring to Maseratis) who gets a serious make over, becomes an L.A. 10, then looks down on all other ugly Betties. Forgetting she was once an ugly Betty.

Anyway, didn't mean to offend anyone, just making an observation of how Maserati ran their display.

Using your analogy to elaborate on what I'm trying to say, Ugly Betty is not looking down on other Ugly Betty's, she remembers who her friends were when she was an Ugly Betty and now that she is an L.A. 10 she is showing seniority to her friends who have been by her side and not the people who are now all of a sudden interested in her.

JCK was upset that his Ferrari key did not give him access to the Maserati area...my point was why should it as the Maserati area was apparently reserved for Maserati owners and a Ferrari key does not designate a Maserati owner.

A Ferrari key at a Car show does designate a potential customer . A Kia or Honda key doesnt .

I must admit I am confused by all this. I thought the ticket in would allow you to walk around everywhere?
Obviously, I've never been to a show. But if I paid to be admitted to the show I'd expect to be able to see all the cars on display.
Can someone enlighten me before I someday waste my money on a show and go bananas at some display....

Correction: ".......you should sue them for discrimination..then get on the list for another F car."
Hey, if it wasn't for Maserati, who would have beta-tested the 430 engine? Of course, that could be looked upon as taking advantage of the "special" people as they step off of that length-challenged bus.
