Wow I think I am going to cry. If anyone is thinking of taking this on, they need to talk to our friend Stephen in the UK that is restoring his Dino. The weather in England is brutal...by the time you take this thing down to baremetal, there may not be a whole lot to work with. For those of you that doubt that, check out Stephen's car or the Daytona that was in the same shop as Stephen's car.

Makes you cry doesn't it. Bloke deserves a smack letting it get like that. Only good for spares

£15K tops, £60K+ spent on it and 2-3 years of swearing, sweating, and hard graft.

    Buy a restored one already

Have put a bid on this car but agree with nerodino will go for 40k plus, also checked there are no tools with it
I wouldnt go above 30k (did ask Mike about it said, will need new panels all round same as mine etc and has only got enough original tubing to do 1 possibly 2 cars then he,s thinking of retiring.

As nearly finished my Dino needing a new project, so did something stupid and bought another car in bits this time a
    Aston Martin DB6

Jon if you are out there need another online workshop manual, so would appreciate you buying one and restoring.

IIRC both Octane and Classic and Sportscar magazines auction roundups got very excited about a Dino going at BCA Blackbushe for £30k it didn't have any history and was a LHD converted to RHD but it was nevertheless complete and a runner. This one clearly isn't.

a complete, but needing much dino gts sold for $95k us earlier this year. it did have a rebuilt motor and gearbox, so that has to be taken into account.

we have all been waiting for the resto/garage trolls to come out, and this is close to one. if someone wants the best, this car is a bottom tier starting point. best of all, if prices hadn't changed over the last two years, this car would probabley never seen th light of day again.

I fear that a car in this condition and in that climate will break in half when the new owner sits in it. I hope it finds a wealthy and enthusiastic new owner with lots of time on their hands.

Remarkable. I do wonder if the winning bidder has been to see the car, and whether we should expect to see it relisted when they do!

It makes more sense to buy a good one. It will cost upwards of $200k to rebuild that car.

To some people ( Myself included) it is nice to be able to do some of the we say easier parts of the restoration themselves, its a good feeling to say "yeah i did that" Also i am a great believer in the fact that if you are passion driven then you achieve a better finished product than just handing it over to a shop and signing cheques every month. Yes it would cost possibly
£80- £100K that way but if you are prepared to do a lot of the dirty work yourself i would guess more like say £40 - £60k and that way you learn a lot about your car and know exactly what you've got at the end of it. And who knows in the time it takes to achieve this the car will probably worth £150k who knows?

As much as i would agree with you, the problem or issue i have then is what do you know as too be what is correct ? I think when you try and tackle it alone, alot of the original may not be present, hence not doing it correctly. Then yo have the other side of the coin, if and when you resale and claim it to be restored the new potential buyer that has this money to purchase will want to know it was done by a shop with credentials.Dinos now in the 250K range is serious money, i know me personally if i woud spend that i would want it done by a shop that was known for this. Its always a slippery slope or double edge sword either way.........just my 2 cents.

Good points but i have seen some so called resto work done by so called "experts". Some of the mechanical work completed on my car before i bought it was done by these experts and I had to redo it all over again.

They are beautiful cars but they do need a lot of TLC.

My advice to the new owner would be do as much as you can, Graham is right, half the fun is doing it yourself and learning about the car (it isnt that complicated)

Take detailed photos of the resto for the history file, you can soon see if the "bodge monkey" has been at it.

    Cheers

    Tony

PS I reckon close to £65K + many hours of heartache. Good luck to the new owner, i personally couldn't do it unless it was in addition to mine. To impatient to drive it!!!
